How to get to Sunny Beach

The resort is located away from big cities and major transport hubs, so you will have to get through the neighboring cities - Burgas or Varna. The money and time costs for air travel are about the same, the difference in ticket prices is 10-20 EUR. Prices on the page are for October 2018.

It is closer to go from Burgas, it is located 40 km from Sunny Beach. Transport departs from the Southern Bus Station, to which bus No. 15 runs every hour from the air gate. In summer, cars to the resort run every 10-30 minutes from 6:00 to 23:50. In winter, there are fewer flights and longer intervals. One of the routes in the direction of the resort passes by the airport and a stop 300 m from it (reference point is a sign with the crossed out inscription “Sarafovo quarter”). So it is not necessary to go to the city center to the bus station, but instead of 20 minutes you will have to wait 40. One way trip costs BGN 7 (children - BGN 3.50, up to 7 years old - free), the journey will take about an hour. It is more expensive to get from Varna, which is 1.5 hours away from the resort; a taxi will cost no less than 100 BGN. To save money, you must first get from the airport to the Central Bus Station by bus number 409 (about 15 minutes). From there, 3 flights run daily (at 8:00, 9:00 and 14:00) to Nessebar and Burgas, which pass through Sunny Beach. The road will take almost 2 hours and 12-14 BGN. The resort stretches for 10 km along the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria from Old Nessebar to Sveti Vlas. There are about 5 routes running from Nessebar through Sunny Beach towards Sveti Vlas and Elenite. All of them pass along the same street, on which all 8 bus stops of the city are located, some call at the bus station. In addition to local transport, buses from Burgas, Sofia and other cities stop everywhere. Travel on city routes costs 2 BGN, on intercity routes it depends on the distance - from 6 BGN.

In a taxi, it is better to follow the road - the driver can drive in circles, winding up the counter.

Several taxi companies operate in Nessebar and Sunny Beach. The car can be ordered by phone or booked online. Due to the great popularity of the resort, the rates are very high here, and the likelihood of deception by the taxi driver is high. The trip will cost no less than 4.50 BGN. This is both a minimum tariff and a call charge, but dishonest drivers try to add up these payments and rip off 9 BGN. Then you will need to pay 3 BGN per 1 km during the day and 3.50 BGN at night, for a minute of waiting or idle time - 1.50 BGN.

For those who plan to talk a lot with home, it is better to switch to local communication. The 3 main Bulgarian companies are Telenor, M-Tel and VivaCom. Each of them has convenient prepaid tariffs for tourists, but Telenor has the most advantageous one. The SIM card itself costs 6 BGN, the amount already includes 30 minutes for calls to Russia and 1000 MB of Internet. If the starting time is not enough, you can activate an additional package - 50 minutes for 9.90 BGN or 100 - for 19.90 BGN. Tariff plans are sold in cell phone stores (you need a passport to connect) and at the checkout in supermarkets. There are practically no dive sites near Sunny Beach. Experienced divers who want to dive will have to go to Varna, Sozopol or other cities. However, the nearest interesting object is located just 5 km from the resort - in Nessebar. Once the city was partially submerged, and now many traces of human civilization rest on the seabed - the city wall, ruins of houses and fragments of amphorae.

There are many diving clubs in the region, one of them is on the South Beach of Sunny Beach. What to bring

The shops in Sunny Beach sell clothes, footwear and accessories made in Bulgaria, as well as traditional souvenirs. For classic shopping and branded things, you should go to Burgas or Varna, local travel agencies organize whole shopping tours.

Ladies usually take away cosmetics based on rose oil from the resort. Silver is in special demand in jewelry - here it is cheaper than in Russia. On the streets of the city you can often meet grandmothers-knitters. I use the bus most often, but if you have to get there at night (city buses run from 6:00 to 20:00), you can't do without a taxi.

Remember that to travel on the bus, money in local currency must be prepared in advance, as you will not be able to pay in euros, dollars or rubles. Tested by personal experience, Bulgarian conductors are adamant. Change some leva in advance for the trip.

By car

The easiest way to get to Sunny Beach by car is to take a taxi. For example, from Burgas, if you arrived there. But here I advise you to be very careful, as the greed of local "bombers" can go off scale all conceivable limits.

The average price for the journey to the resort of 36 kilometers on the way should NOT be higher than 20 € in the high season (July - August). Believe me, taxi drivers will demand 30 €, 50 €, and even 100 € (when they see that you are not in the subject). Do not go on about such dishonest manipulations, demand adequate cost.

Nuance: knowledgeable people are not too lazy to go to the bus stop (see its location above), which is located near the airport, where a taxi will cost much less.

You can negotiate with the driver for 5-10 € (10-20 leva) if you are traveling with several more people. I think that such savings will not hurt for single tourists or couples.

By private car

Fans of their own "steering wheel" on arrival in Bulgaria can rent a car at the airport. In the arrivals hall there are representatives of the companies, they are located on the left in the direction of travel. Often on the streets of the resort you can find cars with Russian numbers. Vacationers who plan to stay here for a long time (from two weeks) come to Sunny Beach, having overcome more than 3,000 kilometers. As for me, I specially came to Sunny Beach in the summer, and then stayed here for the autumn to see with my own eyes how the giant resort is gradually dying out: one after another restaurants, bars, ice cream tents are closed, trampolines are blown away and removed, it turns off until next year, water in the slides of large water parks. On the one hand, the streets are quieter, but on the other, you witness a sad spectacle, as if a huge monster is hibernating in front of your eyes.

   Some hotels are located right on the beach, so when you go out for breakfast in the morning, you can admire the sunrise (the geographical position of Sunny Beach is such that you can see the sunrise on the sea, and sunset in the mountains in the west). The center of Sunny Beach is the area of ​​the "Kuban" hotel.
   A tall white tower with red and blue colors of the inscription can be seen from almost anywhere along the coast. This is a kind of "navel" of a large resort. Near this place there are shopping malls, the most fashionable and expensive restaurants and nightclubs. In the evenings, they call loudly to the bars and offer a cafe for dinner. Personally, I do not find anything special in this area, a continuous hustle and bustle, but for some reason tourists like to come here from all over the coast, wander through the stalls, pushing each other. 3. TO third zone In Sunny Beach, I include streets and villages that are more than two kilometers from the sea. I call this part of the resort "Zone of local residents".
   There are practically no hotels here. Despite the fact that Sunny Beach is an extremely party place. In this area there are houses, schools and kindergartens, where the few indigenous people of this resort live. There are not many of them, but they are. Saint Vlas

Like Old Nessebar, Saint Vlas adjoins Sunny Beach, only from the opposite, northern side. I still advise the most sporty tourists who want to gain health and vivid emotions on vacation, try walking there.

The distance is short, from 2 to 5 kilometers from the part of Sunny Beach where you live, but how many emotions!

How to get there

• City buses No. 5, 8. Their stops are the same as route No. 1. The fare is 0.75 € and 2 €, respectively (1.5 and 4 levs). The time interval between buses is already longer: if you are not lucky right away, you will have to wait for the next bus about half an hour.
• Taxi. The cost can vary from 10 to 50 € (20 to 100 leva) in different taxi fares.
• The road by car will take 15–20 minutes from where you are resting.

What to see

The city is mostly located at the foot of Stara Planina. Some houses are located over 100 meters above sea level. Walking the streets of Vlas is not easy: up and down. Comfortable shoes and a panama hat will definitely come in handy here.
Russian speech is heard everywhere: as in Sunny Beach, most of the real estate is privately owned, including Russians. Therefore, if on the streets you meet a young family with a stroller, a sporty-looking pensioner or a fashionably dressed couple, rest assured that they are Russians! But back to the sights:

A huge flag of Bulgaria flutters over the tower, it can be seen from afar. You can get there by the free bus of the water park (which picks up tourists at public transport stops highlighted with blue arrows).

Every 15–20 minutes a free bus runs to the water park, picking up tourists from city bus stops. This is the most convenient way to get to your destination.

Working hours:

• June 21 – August 24 - from 9:30 am to 7:00 pm;
• August 25 - September 15 - from 10:00 to 18:00.

Price:

• Children up to 0.90 meters tall - free.
• Children 0.90-1.30 meters tall - 10 € (20 levs) (full day), 5 € (10 levs) (after 15:00).
• Adults above 1.30 meters - 18 € (35 levs) (full day), 13 € (25 levs) (after 15:00).

Scheme

On the territory of the water park for the convenience of tourists there are:

• 13 water slides of varying difficulty (18-meter slide "X-treme", "Kamikaze", "Free Fall" are just a few of them);
• swimming pools for adults and children;
• children's area;
• kiosks with ice cream, corn, water and juices;
• cafes and bars;
• changing rooms and safes for storing personal valuables (for a fee).

Life-size animal sculptures are located throughout the park. They give great pleasure to adults and children.

Children up to 6 years old love the children's area of ​​the water park, which has its own slides, fountains, rope ladders and much more.

None of the visitors to the Action Aquapark leaves indifferent. Visit - you will not regret it.

Karting

The length of the track is 450 meters. There is professional coverage (the local team of riders trained here) and special equipment.

How to get there

Located on the E87 highway, Burgas-Varna, near the Action water park.

The black mark shows the location of the go-kart track. You can get here by getting off the Palma (center) stop of city buses No. 1, 5, 8 and walking for 15 minutes along the shopping arcade to the E87 highway.

Price:

• 10 minutes - 15 € (30 levs),
• 15 minutes - 20 € (40 levs),
• 20 minutes - 25 € (50 levs).

You can drive on Honda karts, having put on a comforter (individual, disposable) and a helmet provided by the track staff.

On the territory of the entire resort there is a large, no, even a huge number of souvenir shops, shops, supermarkets, which sell magnets, key rings, souvenir plates, clothes, shoes, and local cosmetics. In many you can find playing cards, backgammon, chess.

Shops with beach accessories are popular with vacationers.

Royal Beach Mall

By the way, this is the only real shopping center in the territory of Sunny Beach. In fact, it occupies the first two floors of the five-star Royal Beach Barcelo.
Here it is on the map, lost among the hotels closer to the first line of the sea. On the main street, the landmark is the Oasis hotel and the bus stop of the same name (any number of the city bus goes here).

More than 100 shops, two restaurants, bars, a pastry shop, a bank and a spacious parking lot for 1 € (2 levs) per hour. I will say right away that only in this mall you can buy quality items. There are both well-known brands and Bulgarian ones.

On my own behalf, I recommend to look into the Fetish store, these are quirky things of two Bulgarian designers from Plovdiv at very good prices. Let's say, leather shoes of an original design will cost only 80 € (150 levs)! But this is completely handmade and unique design. Having come to this store twice, I twice left completely changed from head to toe! The store will especially appeal to fans of grunge style.

In other stores, prices are different, sometimes you can bargain. Discounts are often available, especially in the second half of August when the season is drawing to a close.
If you buy several expensive items worth more than 500 €, apply for Tax Free. At Burgas airport you can get a tax refund up to 20% of the cost.

Even last year, I would say that this is where quality shopping in Sunny Beach ends. But! Discoveries continue: this summer, while wandering around the Kuban Hotel, I came across charming handmade red shoes for only 50 € (109 levs)! So seek and find, as they say.

For those wishing to purchase pink cosmetics on an industrial scale, I recommend delving deeper into the coast and finding a wholesale shop. It is located here.

The landmark is the Kuban hotel, from which you move in the opposite direction from the sea until it stops and turn left until the signboard “Bulgarian Rose”. Warehouse".

Prices there are two times lower than on the coast. And the choice is great! So I recommend not to be lazy.

By the way, the last one. In Sunny Beach, there is not a single, you know, a single decent makeup shop. There are more than enough pink creams and lotions, but you will not find mascara or eye shadow for eyelashes during the day with fire. Inexplicable but the fact.

Clubs and nightlife

Sunny Beach is famous for its nightlife and therefore thunders all over Europe. Young people from all over the world come to hang out, meet, communicate. All conditions have been created here to forget about problems, worries and surrender to the power of music, alcohol and passion.

The doors of all clubs open in the evening. They work seven days a week.

Dance clubs

Disco Orangе is one of the oldest dance clubs in Sunny Beach.

You can get to it by any of the city buses, reaching the stop "Strandzha". The audience there is mostly foreign, there are a lot of Englishmen. The music is good. Of the minuses: admission is paid for everyone and will cost 15 € (30 levs). Plus drinks that start at € 5.

Popular among young people are the nightclubs Revolution Music Factory and Dance club Mania, Cacao Beach, which can accommodate up to 1,500 people.

It is located on the other side of Sunny Beach near the beach. Geographically, this is the stop of the city bus Hotel "Arda". Six dance halls with different music (including national Bulgarian pop), a chic bar overlooking the sea and free admission for girls until midnight.

This is the best dance club on my charts!

Working hours

Clubs open their doors from 22:00. At 00:00, as a rule, the dance floor starts to fill up. The peak is at 2:00. The hall is packed to capacity. The establishments usually close at 5: 00–6: 00. From time to time, the clubs invite DJs from all over the world, you can follow this on posters posted throughout the city, as well as on the websites of holiday destinations.

Rest cost

If the entrance to the club is paid, it costs 3-5 € (from 5 to 10 leva). The ticket price may depend on the number of people in the company. The more people, the cheaper the ticket for one.

If you are interested in club life, take the flyers that are handed out throughout the day on the central avenue. Often, as a bonus, you get free admission to a particular institution or a cocktail as a gift.

Great music and inexpensive drinks from 3 € create a festive atmosphere.

Gaming Clubs

The gambling business in Sunny Beach is legalized. Here is a paradise for gamers. The resort's most famous casinos are located in hotels. Hotel-casinos Platinum, Kuban, Hrizantema are popular.

They work around the clock and every day. Due to the lack of personal experience of playing in a casino, I cannot say what the probability of winning in this place is, but, apparently, there is a certain amount of adrenaline in such a game. I live not far from the Platinum casino and I constantly see the cars of the casino's clients approaching it, some of which are very expensive.

Extreme sports

All available water sports are presented on the beaches of Sunny Beach:

• water skiing (from 25 € per person),
• windsurfing (from 35 € per person),
• diving (from 50 € session with an instructor),
• parachute flight (from 25 € per person).

Windsurfing

Riding on a water board is very popular on the beaches of Sunny Beach. Here are ideal conditions for beginners. There are no big waves, a gentle coastline and an average wind.

There are several training spots along the coast. Walk up on the beach to any point that offers water activities, and you will be advised where the windsurf rentals are.

For example, one of these is located on the border of Sunny Beach and St. Vlas (there is a huge four-star Riu hotel).

The cost

Skiing equipment costs 35 € (70 leva) per hour. If you want to hire an instructor, it will cost you an additional 35 € (70 leva). It is worth noting that these prices are lower than in similar resorts in Italy, Spain, Cyprus.

Be sure to try windsurfing, you will love the headwind, the drive of sliding. Children start teaching at the age of 10.

Souvenirs. What to bring as a gift

Coming from vacation, we certainly want to bring our family and friends, and often ourselves, cute souvenirs and nice gifts.

I'll tell you about the most popular ones.

Rose oil

This bus runs every day from 10:00 to 22:00. The time interval between buses is 40 minutes. Depart from the Orange club.

The cost of the trip: 1 € (2 levs) for an adult and 0.5 € (1 lev) for a child.

Intercity buses

In addition to municipal buses, there are intercity routes, as well as those plying between nearby villages (Kosharitsa, Ravda, Tynkovo). Such routes begin from the bus station (“autogara” in Bulgarian), located in the center of the resort. It can be reached by bus number 1 (stop "Avtogara"):

• A - Hotel Kuban.
• B - Abtogara (bus station).

If you want to go to neighboring Burgas, Varna, Pomorie, Kosharitsa, start from the bus station.

Ticket prices are small:

• to Burgas - 3 € (6 levs);
• to Kosharitsa, Ravda, Sveti Vlas, Elenite (nearby villages) - from 1 to 2 € (2-4 levs) depending on the route;
• in Sunny Beach - 0.7 € (1.3 leva).

You can see the bus schedule both at stops and at the bus station.

If you come by car from Russia or another country, you must definitely buy a vignette (pay road tax) during your stay in Bulgaria.

The cost

In 2016, the amount of road tax for a passenger car was:

• for 1 year - 49 € (97 levs),
• for 1 month - 15 € (30 levs),
• for 1 week - 7.5 € (15 levs).

You can buy a vignette at any gas station or at a border checkpoint. Observe the traffic rules on the roads and be sure to pay for parking, there are practically no free places either in Sunny Beach, or in the central part of Burgas or Varna.

Vacation with children

I have already written that the conditions in the Sunny Beach resort are ideal for coming here with children again and again.

Noisy water parks, inflatable trampolines, pirate ships and even a special children's menu in most restaurants - what the Bulgarians have not come up with to entertain the youngest tourists on this coast!

Water parks

Action and Nessebar water parks are a must! Here is the real expanse of playfulness and games in the water!

The children's center at the Laguna Park Hotel costs only 10 € per hour, and your child will be attended by professional animators, and parents will be able to relax and be in silence.

Trampolines

There are several large inflatable trampolines on the waterfront near the Kuban Hotel, where kids can jump around and parents can take their minds off their daily routine. The cost of the attraction is 7.5 € (15 levs) for 20 minutes.

Pirates of the Caribbean

Pirate water park is made in the style of "Pirates of the Caribbean"!

You can get to it by any city bus (stop "Stadium"), from where you can see the large hotel Kotva, next to which the pirate ship rises. Such a water park, although inferior in size to the giants Action and Nessebar, is very carefully thought out in style: funny slides, a fountain straight from the pool and even a separate nest in a tree for the privacy of real pirates!

The entrance to the water park is only 3 € (12 leva).
