What to see in Phuket if it was a cloudy and not a beach day? It's time to see the beauty of the island from above. Promthep Cape is located in the south of Phuket and is easily accessible from Chalong, Rawai and Naiharn. In addition to beautiful views, there are several other Thai curiosities: the altar of the god Brahma with a hundred elephants, a lighthouse with a golden dome and a monument to a Thai prince. Cape Promthep is also called Sunset View Point. Tourists are brought here every evening so that they can appreciate the beauty of the sunset over the Andaman Sea.
Finding Cape Promthep is easy. It is located in the very south of the island between the villages of Rawai and Naiharn. Both from one and from the other beaches are literally 5 minutes away by bike or by car. Near the observation deck there is a parking lot, a small market with souvenirs and several restaurants.
In the afternoon, there are few people on the observation deck of Cape Promthep. In a couple of hours, closer to sunset, there will be nowhere for an apple to fall, because Sunset View Point is the main platform for contemplating the sunset.
A little to the left is the main part of the cape, on which the main attractions are located. This is the altar of the god Brahma.
Near the altar are hundreds of elephants of different sizes, colors and shapes. Thais brightly decorate figurines to appease the gods. According to legend, if you bring a wooden elephant here, then the god Brahma will fulfill the most secret desire.
Elephants as a gift are still flowers. Just remember the cave littered on Pranang Beach in the neighboring province of Krabi.
And here are two more interesting buildings. On the left is a monument to the Thai prince Chumphon. Thais idolize their rulers and consider them almost gods in the flesh. The building on the right in the photo is a lighthouse with a solid gold dome and a small museum inside. To enter it, you need to take off your shoes and run barefoot on hot tiles.

There is a parking near the observation deck, and on the opposite side of the road there are shops with drinks, ice cream, snacks, fruits, souvenirs and other small things lined up in a row.

In addition to the sights, on this, the highest platform of the Promthep complex, there are places for recreation. From this point, there are also picturesque views of the Andaman Sea and the surrounding area.

From Rawai Beach, the closest way is from the intersection in the southern part of the beach (landmark - Rawai Palm Beach Resort), then along road 4233, you can also go along road 3047, but it will take a little longer.

Promthep Cape Tour
At the entrance to Phromthep Cape, you will see a lot of souvenir shops designed specifically for tourists. There are also several points where you can buy fruits and have a snack. If you like something in the shops, then it's better to bargain, because. prices are really high. For those who urgently need it, there is an equipped toilet behind the tents.
As you go upstairs, you will see a tiny temple on the left with a statue of a seated Brahma. Tiny because it looks more like a house of spirits. Around it are hundreds of elephant figurines of various sizes and colors.
Brahma is the Indian God who creates our universe. In Thai, it sounds like "Phrom", and "Thep" is translated as "God". Hence the name of the cape. Thais sometimes call it "lam jao". The sculpture is made in the Thai style and differs from those installed in Hindu temples. Locals daily bring flowers and decorations to him and come to pray.
From the equipped platform Promthep Cape, you can walk to the peninsula, which offers a wider panorama of the surroundings. In addition, there are very few people there, because. the climb is quite difficult and many are too lazy to go up and down the bumps. If you are not too lazy to do this, you can sit on a rock with your legs dangling. It is possible to go down to the water and even swim. But be careful, because there are quite a few slippery rocks. With high waves, it is better not to meddle there - life is more expensive. The waves will easily take out on the stones and write wasted.
It is better to come to Promthep Cape at 18:00 to meet the sunset, because it is not for nothing that the second name of the observation deck is Sunset View Point. You will see how the sun sets over the horizon and all this against the backdrop of tall palm trees and the sea. Don't forget your camera to capture the moment. In fact, Phromthep Cape is better to come early, around 5 pm, to see a small museum before meeting the sunset. It is located right on the observation deck, inside the lighthouse. Built in 1996, in honor of the 50th anniversary of the reign of King Rama IX, the dome is cast from pure gold. Therefore, this place is translated from Thai as "Golden Jubilee Lighthouse".
At the entrance, on the left, it is written at what time today will be sunrise and sunset. To go inside, you must take off your shoes. There are many ancient exhibits inside, one way or another connected with the sea and ships: lighthouses of various designs, navigational compasses, lanterns, etc. You can buy key chains for 20 baht in the form of a starfish or a crescent with the inscription Phuket. Be sure to go up to the very roof of the lighthouse, because only from there a circular view (360 degrees) opens up to the island, as well as to the entire Promthep cape. If the sun is shining, then you won’t stay there much, because. the floor gets so hot that you have to shift from foot to foot, and in some areas even dance (recall that you have to take off your shoes when entering the lighthouse).
Near the lighthouse there is a monument to the founder of the Royal Thai Navy - Prince Chumpon. Incense and flowers are also brought here daily.

- On a moped, alone
In Thailand, it is very common to rent mopeds, as well as to move around the islands on them. Renting a moped usually costs 200-300 baht per day, depending on the model of the bike and its characteristics. From the beaches of Patong, Kata, Karon on a moped to Promthep Cape, it takes about 20-25 minutes. We rode a moped from our hotel in Patong Oscar Boutique Hotel for about 25-30 minutes.
- By taxi or tuk-tuk
You can come to Promthep Cape by tuk-tuk or taxi, in which case you'd better find more people to go with you, as prices will start from 600 baht one way, depending on the place you're coming from.
- As part of the overview
In Phuket, you can get to Promthep Cape as part of a sightseeing tour of the island. This option is suitable for those who are afraid to rent a moped or any other vehicle. The disadvantage of this method is that you will be limited in the time spent on the cape.
- By public transport
In this case, you will have to walk about 2 km. From the beaches of Patong, Karon or Kata, take the songteo bus, the fare is about 40-50 baht and go to Phuket Town. Next, change to a minibus with the inscription Phuket - Rawai - Nai Harn. You will need to drive the entire Rawai beach and get off at the end of it before reaching Nai Harn beach. Then turn left off the road and go towards Yanui beach. Walk approximately 1.5 km. After Yanui beach, turn left uphill and walk another 500 meters. This will be the ascent to Cape Promthep.

This is the most popular holiday island in Thailand 🙂 The Chinese, as usual, go in crowds, while other tourists in small companies and couples.
Entrance to Promthep Cape is free, so you can come here more than once, especially if you are staying on the beaches near it.
Only a small part of the tourists decide to go down the cape to the sea, so if you want to be at least a little secluded, you will really like this walk. We went down this path when we came to Promthep Cape for the first time, at sunset, it was not hot anymore, so the walk turned out to be easy. You need to go down a small path, in some places it is not very convenient.
But, as you descend, you will have beautiful views of Promthep Cape itself and its surrounding territory.

Many tourists come here only for a beautiful view of the sea and small islands, and do not notice at all that there is also an altar on the observation deck, around which you can see many elephants of different sizes.
