The best beaches for families with children in Italy on the map

Lignano

We will deliberately give the top spot in our TOP 5 to the small Italian resort town of Lignano. It is located in the northeast of Italy, approximately halfway between and, and belongs geographically to the Venetian Riviera. It is washed by the Morano Lagoon on one side and the Adriatic Sea on the other.

By many criteria, this place can be considered the best for a beach holiday with children in Italy. For many years, year after year, Lignano has consistently received the highest European Union award for the cleanliness of its beaches - the Blue Flag. But cleanliness is not the only advantage of the resort.

It must be said right away that there are areas in Lignano - Sabbiadoro, Pineta, Riviera - and they are quite different. If you are planning a holiday with children in Italy, it is better to opt for Lignano Pineta, since Sabbiadoro is a rather heavily built-up and noisy area, and the Riviera is more suitable for golf lovers - there are plenty of golf courses here.

Lignano Pineta is famous for its pine forest - the area is literally surrounded by greenery. A wonderful beach with golden sand stretches along the wide green strip of Parco del Mare. The combination of clear water, an impeccable sandy beach, the emerald greenery of the park (strictly speaking, there are two parks - “Morskoy” and “Hemingway”, separated by the main street of the city) and distance from noisy “adult” discos - it’s hard to think of something better for a holiday with children in Italy.

For a family holiday in Lignano, it is better to choose the Pineta area

There are paid and free beaches. There are four free ones, and they are no worse than paid ones, equipped with everything you need for a sea holiday and entertaining children. For variety, you can choose a time and visit the Punta Verde Zoo, the Gulliver children's amusement park, parrot and butterfly nurseries, and the Hemingway Plant Park. The Aquasplash water park is also located here.

As for accommodation, there are any accommodation options in Lignano - from hotels to private houses. But “historically” it turned out that tourists who decide to have a seaside holiday with children in Italy in Lignano, as a rule, rent private apartments in low-rise buildings.

All Lignano beaches are under 24-hour and strict control of marine rescue services - this is a separate noticeable advantage of Lignano. Lignano Sabbiadoro also has a 24-hour first aid station.

Cattolica

Another seaside resort that can, without exaggeration, be considered ideal for a family holiday, and where there are the best beaches for families with children, is Cattolica. This place is located on the border of the Riviera Romagnola in the region and Marche region. The locals themselves affectionately call Cattolica the “Queen of the Adriatic Sea,” and there’s definitely a reason for it. Back in 2010, the sandy beach of Cattolica, two kilometers long, earned the Blue Flag for the cleanliness of the water.

The beaches of Cattolica are great for families with babies and older children

The large beach is divided into “beaches”, each with its own serial number. All of them are perfectly equipped for a family holiday. There is everything here - children's clubs, swimming pools, jacuzzi, outdoor fitness rooms, table tennis, billiards. You can rent boats and catamarans. Many restaurants are open from dawn to dusk.

Actually, the beaches Regina Beach (sites no. 9-10-11), Beach 96 (Via Santa Chiara) and Bagno Voulpen (no. 85) are officially considered family beaches. Here, in addition to entertainment for parents, an excellent holiday with children in Italy is offered - animators, nannies work, and children's discos are held.

Be sure to go to the Aquarium - kids will be delighted with this stunning underwater kingdom with real sharks.

The Aquarium of Cattolica can surprise any child

In the park near Shark Bay, every day from 21:00 to 22:30, animators from the museum organize exciting children's parties, games and discos.

Each season offers its own Mary Poppins Summer Center program - educational courses and fun events for children and teenagers under 18 years of age. Children of all ages will find something to suit their interest and taste - learning Italian, tennis lessons, horse riding and many other interesting and useful things for kids.

Your children will also be very welcome in the city center. The Mercatino playground in Piazza del Mercato opens on June 15th. Here you can play with the many toys provided, try delicious snacks and make new friends from many different countries. And in the port of Nuova Darsena and on Piazza della Rosa dei Venti, guests are invited to watch performances by circus artists.

Terracina

The main city of the Riviera di Ulisse and also an excellent seaside resort for a family holiday with children in Italy is. The resort is famous for its excellent, clean and fully equipped beaches, which stretch along the coastline for 15 km. In addition to quality recreation and entertainment, Terracina is also valuable for its unique air with a high iodine content - in this indicator Terracina is second only to Acapulco.

The iodine-rich air of Terracina has a beneficial effect on overall health

The sandy beaches in these places are ideal even for the little ones - the water is clean, the sand is very soft, and the entry into the sea is long and gentle.

For kids, animators work on the beaches, large inflatable toys are provided, you can jump on a trampoline and have plenty of fun in any other way. Older children will enjoy exciting excursions to the old town. You can diversify your water activities at the local Miami Beach water park.

Adults here will also by no means be deprived of opportunities for an exciting holiday. On the beaches you can practice almost all possible water sports, including diving. Moreover, you can swim underwater even after sunset, when marine life and underwater landscapes look most mysterious.

Along the entire bay on the embankment you will find a lot of restaurants and cafes where you can have a snack and feed the kids.

If you are planning a seaside holiday in Italy with children in Terracina, and you are traveling with a large family, it is advisable to choose in advance a good accommodation option in a cozy area of cottages and villas, which is adjacent to the town itself.

Riccione

Another seaside resort in Italy where both adults and children will definitely have a good rest is. In addition to the excellent climate, clean sea and wonderful air, the whole family will also find a lot of entertainment here, so no one will be bored.

First of all, it is necessary to note the nature of the beaches. They are perfect for a sea holiday with children in Italy - a long, gentle entrance to the sea, a complete absence of rocks and reefs. Most of the beaches are equipped with modern playgrounds and comfortable rooms for changing and changing children.

The beaches of Riccione are strewn with fine sand and are perfectly equipped for families with children

There is plenty of entertainment for children here - a dolphinarium, a water park, a cinema, an amusement park. There is even a whole Beach Village beach club with water attractions, slides, a swimming pool, carousels, trains, and a trampoline. Here kids can dance with the animators.

You can also rent bicycles with special seats for children and take a fun bike ride to the neighboring resorts of Rimini or Cattolica. The resorts are connected by a separate bike path that stretches along the entire coast.

Riccione may be a small town (30 thousand people), but it has large supermarkets where you can buy all the necessary baby supplies - diapers, milk, special baby food, etc.

Rimini

Finally, it is a very democratic and perhaps the most popular seaside resort, which is chosen annually by thousands and thousands of families from all over the world for holidays with children in Italy.

To be fair, it should be said that in terms of respectability and impeccability, Rimini is slightly inferior to Cattolica or, moreover, Lignano, but we cannot help but mention it, since this is a real Mecca for family holidays on the Adriatic.

Rimini has long become a real Mecca for family holidays in Italy

The coastal landscape here is very suitable for swimming children - the sea is shallow, and to reach the depth you need to walk several tens of meters. The bottom is safe, sandy, without stones and pebbles.

Scala dei Turki, Sicily

Here, before your eyes, a simply stunning landscape will open that will surprise everyone: of course, because the author of the incredible structure located off the coast of Agrigento is nature itself: the rocks, white and shiny, are constantly polished by the wind and sea waves. The name of the beach speaks of its historical past, in which this place was a refuge for the boats of Turkish pirates. is waiting for you!

Fontelina Beach, Campania

We are on an island. This is where "La Fontelina" lies, a picturesque beach that was born directly opposite the world famous (and incredibly beautiful) Faraglioni Rocks. The poetic name - "source of flax" - refers to the women who collected flax right here, in the natural pools that formed along the rocks.

Mattinata, Apulia

"Mattinata" beach is one of the most precious pearls of Cape Gargano, located in the Gulf of Manfredonia; this place has been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag more than once, which indicates the purity of the local waters. The coastline in this area is mostly rocky, but here and there secret compartments glitter, located among the rocks, covered with small pebbles. Mattinatella and Vignanotica are among the most famous beaches in the area, but in general there are countless coves here: they can often only be reached by boat, but the difficult journey will reward you with a wonderful sight!

Cape Coda Cavallo, Sardinia

A few kilometers from the busy coastline, Cape Coda Cavallo is an oasis of beauty and tranquility, surrounded by crystal clear lagoon waters on one side and lush vegetation (tamarisk, juniper and cork trees) on the other. The curious name of the granite cape comes from its unusual shape; Coda Cavallo is surrounded by some of Sardinia's most famous beaches - cala Brandinchi, cala Suaraccia, cala Coda Cavallo, Baia Salinedda and Salina Bamba. The entire area is part of the Tavolara Marine Reserve and it goes without saying that each of these places is worth a visit!

Cavoli Beach, Tuscany

We take a short jump and head to the beautiful beach of Cavoli, which owes its name to the granite blocks ("cavili") quarried in this area since time immemorial. This is the ideal place to admire nature, which will dazzle you in all its splendor every minute!

San Vito Lo Capo, Sicily

The local landscape seems to have come out of a painting or a postcard: the sea is clean, the sand is white, and the vegetation is incredibly green. Near the beach there is an ancient borgo, a participant in the rating of the most beautiful villages in Italy, dating back centuries. History, legends, luxury of nature - what more could you ask for from a summer holiday?!

The Conero area deserves a special mention: it is home to San Michele beach, with a sandy coastline and a green forest behind. White coastline, deep blue sea waters and colorful lush vegetation: open your soul to new experiences and enjoy nature in all its glory!

This beach with fine white sand, part of the emerald coast, Costa Smeralda, got its name for a reason: they say it was here that Prince Aga Khan relaxed during his leisure hours. Italy also has magnificent islands: Sardinia, Sicily, Capri, Elba, Ischia, and they are all unique, different from one another.

1. Beaches of Liguria

Perhaps the most beautiful Italian beaches are in Liguria - clean sand, azure sea and small coves. Our tourists are especially attracted to the beaches near San Remo, for example, the Three Bridges Beach. It is attracted by the delicate blue sea water and soft sand; of course, this beach is equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable stay. The beach is surrounded by picturesque hills and there are many restaurants and cafes nearby. The most expensive holiday in Liguria can be found on the beaches of Portofino - a reference resort. From here it is not far to Genoa - a city with a rich history, the birthplace of Christopher Columbus. Although there are no beaches in Genoa itself, there are beautiful pebble beaches with clear water not far from it. Genoese beaches have been repeatedly decorated with blue flags - this is how the cleanest beaches in Europe are celebrated.

2. Beaches of Tuscany

On Tuscan beaches you can find all the diversity that is typical of the Italian coast. In the north you can find paid beaches with modern equipment and many vacationers; diving schools, yacht clubs and expensive hotels are also located here. The northern beaches are called Versilia or the Tuscan Riviera. The town of Marina de Carrara, located in Versilia, is recognized as the best Italian seaside resort for young people. There are great opportunities for active recreation: scuba diving, surfing, water skiing, and not very expensive. Here you can rent a scooter or a boat, and the nightlife here is simply in full swing in numerous discos and dance floors.
Other interesting cities for holidays on the northern coast of Tuscany are Viareggio, Lido di Camaiore, Forte dei Marmi - they have well-groomed beaches, comfortable hotels, wonderful restaurants with the best Tuscan cuisine in Italy. All these towns have become places for respectable recreation. In the south of the Tuscan coast, the bays are deserted, beautiful Mediterranean nature reigns here, so it’s nice to admire the scenery and enjoy a relaxing holiday with your family or company. In the south of Tuscany, you can choose resort towns such as Livorno, Pisa, Grosseto for a family holiday, especially since holidays here are cheaper than those to the north.

3. Beaches of Sardinia

The island of Sardinia is worthy of at least one seaside holiday. Its 1,850 km long coastline is home to a quarter of all Italian beaches. The Italians themselves consider the Sardinian beaches to be the best, among which Costa Smeralda, Capriccioli, Spiaggia del Principe and the “rice beaches” are especially worth noting. It's a bit difficult to walk on them, but it's nice to sunbathe.

The most popular place is Mondello, where a two-kilometer sandy beach is bordered by rocks with caves. The Sicilians themselves prefer to relax here, so during the season it is always crowded. But if on the beaches of Palermo there is nowhere for an apple to fall, then on the beaches of the Aeolian Islands there are almost no vacationers, and the water there is crystal clear. These islands were created as a result of volcanic eruptions, and one of them is home to the active Stromboli volcano.
There are thermal springs on the island of Panarea. In Catania, at the foot of Etna, there is an 18-kilometer beach called La Playa, starting in the city center. Near the town of Taormina there is a pretty beach called Naxos, near which there are luxury hotels, nightclubs and expensive restaurants.

5. Beaches of Calabria

The sandy beaches in the west of Calabria are washed by the waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, and the inaccessible rocky bays of the east of the region are filled with the waters of the Ionian Sea. It is on the Tyrrhenian beaches that you can find modern infrastructure, so here you can not only bask in the sun during the day, but also have a great time at night - in coastal cities there are many relevant establishments at the service of vacationers. The Tyrrhenian coast is notable for the presence of many ships on the seabed, the oldest of which sank here in ancient times (4 centuries BC). Thanks to this, many diving enthusiasts strive to get here.
Marina Grande beach is considered one of the best in Calabria - “the beach of the sirens”, where there is very soft sand and blue sea. This beach is not surrounded by hills, so it is constantly blown by a light sea breeze - this is especially pleasant in the heat. Among other beaches, we can mention Gioia Tauro - a beach where sand is mixed with pebbles, Costa Viola, so named because the sea here has a soft purple hue, this beach has amazingly beautiful sunsets.
