According to the project, the beginning of the route runs along an already existing dam 5 km long and along the island of Tuzla. The next section of the bridge after the island crosses the Kerch Strait, at the same time it goes around the southernmost cape of Kerch Ak-Burun from the side of the bay and comes ashore in the area of Cementnaya Slobidka, not far from the mouth of the Dzhardzhava River. The design load on the two tracks of the Kerch bridge railway is up to 47 pairs of trains daily, both freight and regular passenger. The construction of pile foundations for the bridge supports on land began on March 10, 2016. The first support of the bridge on Tuzla (according to the project - support No. 173) was completed on April 12, 2016. By the end of May, more than 1,000 piles had been driven into the base of the bridge.
The stage of installation of spans delivered from Voronezh started on June 9 from Taman; a few days later, construction work began in the water area. Since August 2016, the main navigable supports have been installed, arch spans are being assembled.
By September 1, exactly 100 supports were installed, by September 13, the temporary auxiliary infrastructure for bridge construction was fully created on each side and on Tuzla Island. In connection with the plans of the builders of the Crimean bridge to put the road part of the Crimean bridge into operation with a significant lead, in May 2018 instead of December, the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation is considering a phased scheme for organizing traffic on a new route through the Kerch Strait.

In particular, it is planned that in May a through passage will be provided on a 40-kilometer auto-approach from the side of the Taman coast (from the existing federal highway A-290 to the Crimean bridge), without commissioning transport interchanges with the local road network. At the same time, on the Crimean side, an auto-approach from the Crimean bridge to the interchange with the Tavrida highway will be ready for the opening of traffic in the working mode. Further traffic will go along two lanes of the existing Kerch-Simferopol road.
By the end of 2018, two new lanes of the Tavrida to Simferopol should be ready, and auto-approaches to the Crimean bridge will be fully introduced, which will make it possible to remove temporary restrictions on the movement of trucks along the highway through the Kerch Strait.
Fairings were installed on the facade of the bridge to the Crimea, reducing the wind load on the arched span of the road part above the Kerch-Yenikal Canal, the Crimean Bridge information center reported.
“The fairings were mounted directly from the arch span, in a safe mode for navigation, without any restrictions for the movement of ships along the Kerch-Yenikal Canal.
