Levy(fin. Levi) - one of the largest ski resorts in Finland.
The name of the resort comes from the name of the mountain Levy(Fin. Levitunturi) near which it is located. Experts believe that the word "Levi" itself is of Sami origin, but today the etymology of the toponym is unknown.
Ski resort Levi located in the village Sirkka(Fin. Sirkka around the mountain Levy in the municipality of Kittila in the western part of the province of Lappi, 160 km north of the Arctic Circle. The resort is 14 km from the nearest airport, Kittila, and 78 km from the nearest railway station in Kolari. Distance from Helsinki in a straight line - 850 km.
The height of Mount Levi is 531 m above sea level. Levi has 48 ski slopes, of which 15 are illuminated, and 27 lifts.

Most of the ski slopes are suitable for beginners, but there are also 4 black slopes for experts. The maximum elevation difference is 325 m. The longest descent is 2500 m. The longest lift is 1636 m. Levi has one superpipe, one halfpipe, one snow park, 10 children's slopes and 7 restaurants located on the slopes.
Ski season in Levy lasts approximately from mid-October to early June (until the end of April - guaranteed).
Other outdoor activities in Levi include cross-country skiing, snowmobile safaris, cycling, reindeer and dog sledding safaris, fishing, hiking, rowing, etc. The total length of cross-country skiing trails reaches 230 km; for snowmobiles - 850 km. You can also take a snowshoe or snowmobile trip to the nearest Mount Katka (Finnish: Kätkätunturi), located to the west of Mount Levi.
In 2009, the construction of a full-size golf course was completed, located at the northern foot of Mount Levi. During the summer, when the sun doesn't set, Levi Golf is open 24/7.
To accommodate guests in Levy there are 8 hotels, 6 apart-hotels, 1 hostel and hundreds of cottages. The total number of beds in the resort in 2015 was 24,000. Kittila Airport, serving visitors to Levi, is the second largest airport in Finland after Helsinki. IN Levy there is a congress center, three supermarkets, a pharmacy and dozens of shops, boutiques, restaurants and eateries. In September 2010, the largest water park in Lapland with 17 pools was opened at the Levitunturi Hotel.

The Levi ski resort is located in the western part of Lapland, where the highest mountains of the country Suomi are located, 100 km north of the Arctic Circle and 15 km from the Kittilä airport. Thanks to this, the skiing becomes very diverse, and even experienced skiers with a good level of skiing find it difficult to ride all the slopes in one day. The close location of the ski lifts to the hotels helps to plan skiing time in the most productive way. Levi is a great option for an active family holiday.





The main advantage of the resort is the convenience of skiing for beginner skiers. There is a ski school on Levi with Russian-speaking instructors. Some instructors specialize in teaching children to ski. The resort has an extensive network of trails for snowmobiles (more than 600 km), flat skiing (more than 230 km, of which 23 km are equipped with lighting). Those who love to travel long distances have the opportunity to travel from one resort to another, for example, from Levi to Ylläs. Children's town in the open air with interesting games and sports, a ski school with a children's instructor, a game center for entertainment at the Levitunturi hotel with a nanny who speaks Russian.

Snowmobiling-

Levi has 150 km of official snowmobile trails. Get behind the wheel and step on the gas! You will need a driver's license to drive a snowmobile. The maximum permitted speed on water routes is 80 km/h, on land - 60 km/h, and in populated areas, in dangerous areas and in villages - 30 km/h. Road signs indicate the speed limit on the site. Beware: BAC limits are in place when driving a car, they also apply to driving a snowmobile. For a safe ride, both the driver and passengers must wear a helmet.


Horseback riding-

The world looks different if you look at it while sitting in the saddle. There is no better way to get closer to the northern nature of Levi than by horseback riding: the local horseback riding trails pass through the picturesque mountainous area. You can ride friendly Finnish horses or Icelandic ponies, which are loved by children. In Levi, horseback riding is possible for both beginners and experienced riders. Take a private riding lesson or go on a horseback ride for a few days, overnight in a comfortable camp.

Parents can ride and look after the baby in turn, using a shared lift pass. The cozy slopes of Utsuvaara and Aurinkohissi, as well as the South slope of Etelarinne, are best suited for family holidays.

Hiking and Hiking-

There is no better way to quickly get to know Levi's surroundings than to cycle through it - alone, with friends or with the whole family. It is not at all necessary to bring iron horses from home: you can easily rent a modern mountain bike. In addition to a large number of different cycle tracks and mountain routes, Levi has the fastest cycling route in Finland with elevation changes. In Bikepark you can ride free-ride, dirt and 4cross tracks. Detailed information on cycling routes can be found at the Tourist Information Centre. In Levi, there are excellent tracks for roller skating: ring tracks, as well as mountain tracks with descents and ascents. You can rent videos or sign up for classes with an instructor.

Fishing and hunting-

In the vicinity of Levi there are a huge number of lakes, rivers, ponds and streams. It is in this place that stories of legendary catches sometimes take place, which are then retold to each other by friends for many years. Tip: Before you go fishing in Finland, purchase a fishing permit and keep your tax receipt.

Canoeing

In Levi, everyone can experience the joy of canoeing down the river, regardless of their level of experience. The rivers Ounasjoki, Kapsajoki, Loukinen, Aakenusjoki are easy routes with first category rapids. The water level in the Aakenusjoki River drops towards the end of summer, so it is better to plan a canoe trip at the beginning of summer. Kapsioki is known as a body of water teeming with fish: renting a canoe can be a great way for a fisherman to get to the treasured fishing spots!

Deer and huskies

Although deer and huskies are more common to see in Lapland in winter, you have the opportunity to meet them in summer. Visit deer farms and husky nurseries. Children especially like such trips, because on the farm you can learn more about these friendly animals, get to know them better and even pet them.

Thinking about a wellness vacation, someone imagines a day spent in a spa or beauty salon, and someone imagines a gym or a fitness club. At Levi, you can take advantage of the spa treatments, work out on the gym equipment or simply enjoy the soothing warmth of the sauna. There is no hurry here.
