What is: Chunga - Changa! How is Chunga Changa translated from African language?

My friends are students of one of the institutes - natives of the warm African country of Mozambique. As befits blacks, they love music very much; There is a radio or tape recorder constantly playing in their homes.

One day, at one of them, a song from the famous Soviet cartoon about Chunga-Changa was broadcast on the radio.

The reaction of my quite decent friends to this quite cute children's song was completely inadequate: those who understood the Russian language well laughed homerically; those who did not understand him very well blushed and were embarrassed; those who did not know Russian at all were stunned and amazed.

And that's what it turned out to be. In their native dialect the phrase *CHONG CHANGA* means, how can I put it mildly, *to have sexual intercourse with a monkey*.

And how they sang along:

-“Our happiness is constant - chew coconuts, eat bananas, CHUNGA CHANGA”...

And since we started talking about cartoons, you know What would Winnie the Pooh's name be? different countries? Very funny:

And, in parting, another cartoon - some consider it “the best cartoon of all time”))

Not everyone knows that the island of Chunga Changa is not a utopia, not a teaser, and not a cartoonist’s fantasy. It exists and unsuccessfully hides under the name of the island of Saipan in the blue waters Pacific Ocean. Everything is like in the children's song - coconuts and bananas, and summer all year round, and the carelessness of the local population. So... Welcome to summer!

Saipan Island is the largest of the 15 Mariana Islands. Almost all the infrastructure is concentrated in its western part: hotels, small shops, restaurants, water parks, a shopping center, clubs, discos, golf clubs, cinemas, a police station, hospitals. The beaches here are like the scenery from a candy bar advertisement - white, sandy and with palm trees. The reefs off the coast form a picturesque lagoon.

By the way, the eastern part of the island is the starting point for the descent into the Mariana Trench.

For the sake of decency, it is worth taking at least one excursion around the island of Saipan, preferably with a Russian-speaking guide. He will tell you that the island was discovered by Ferdinand Magellan in 1521, became a Spanish colony, and for a long time galleons and sea vessels. During the centuries of Spanish rule indigenous people(Chamoro) was almost entirely transported to the island of Guam.

In 1914, the Empire of Japan declared the island its own: the production of cane sugar began, schools, kindergartens, sanctuaries and entertainment venues were intensively built. In 1944, American troops finally drove out the Japanese, and a lot of blood was shed. In wild areas of the island and in areas that have not been cleared seabed Rusty tanks and abandoned weapons still lie. Not wanting to surrender, the Japanese fell off the cliff into the sea, and now the site of mass suicide is called “Banzai Cliff”. Well, in memory of the victims of the battle, the American Memorial Park was laid out.

During the excursion, you will be taken to the Calavera Cave and taken to observation deck, from where Bird Island will be visible. You will visit the limestone Grotto cave with underwater access to the ocean. Along the way you will meet mysterious and mysterious stones Taga, different in size (from average human height to the size of a one-story house). Nobody knows anything about the origin of these strange stones. Or maybe they know, but are hiding it?

With a rented car or as part of a tour group, it is worth visiting the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Santa Lourdes - the only structure that miraculously escaped the bombing in 1944. In addition, here is the only source of fresh water on the island of Saipan, and according to legend, washing with this water makes a person more beautiful.

The Botanical Garden has many tropical plants. To explore the area comfortably, you can rent an electric car or use the services of a guide. Main attraction Botanical Garden a huge tree protrudes, with a platform built on it, from where a wonderful view opens.

Mount Tapochao is the most high point in the world. Its main 11 km. start at the bottom Mariana Trench, are only 473 m above sea level. The mountain is crowned with the figure of Jesus Christ, and here you can see American stands depicting the events of the Second World War. The scenery in all directions is stunning. From here you can see the beginning of the Mariana Trench, marked in slate color on the sea surface.

The only one shopping center on the island of Saipan is a “Duty Free Gallery”, but the products of well-known brands in the world of fashion, perfumes and cosmetics, and jewelry are presented here. This is Tiffany, and Cartier, and Chanel with Louis Vuitton.

Souvenirs in memory of the island of Saipan can be purchased in small shops. Chamoro folk art is represented by various labor-intensive goods - bowls made of coconut palms, wicker sandals, hats and bags, sea shells, jewelry made from seeds of local plants, beads and shells.

Next to the Garapan shopping center is the Chamoli Village, built according to the ancient rules of the Chamoro people. This is a historical village where you can get acquainted with local life and culture. Guests are offered to learn how to peel coconuts themselves, master the art of drawing with banana stamps, and learn the technology of making local sweets and coconut oil. Those who wish can make their own jewelry from beads, weave a headdress or a basket, contribute to the creation of a canoe, and also try it out in the waters of the lagoon. Local kitchen will delight you with a special barbecue and other delicacies, and a dance show will immerse you in the exotic island.

For those who have always dreamed of trying inspiration underwater, there is every chance to make their dream come true. First, try your hand at the island of Managaha, with a snorkel and mask. Admire the colorful fish, branched corals, and the wreckage of long-sunk ships. Go to the bottom of the lagoon by diving into a submarine. Through its portholes you will discover a marvelous underwater world.

Many people will be lucky enough to visit the Grotto cave, as mentioned above, but not everyone will be able to go under the water. The path to the sea leads through a labyrinth, so such a dive requires preparation. This part of the cave is called by diving experts one of the most stunning in the world.

Surrounding the island with a historical twist are about 20 sunken Japanese warships, wrecked fighters, tanks and military aircraft resting on the ocean floor. Near Obyan Beach there are known breeding grounds for eels and underwater caves conceal the unknown essence of the ocean. And somewhere near the island, the treasures of a Spanish galley that sank to the bottom several centuries ago are covered in silt.

Who said water parks are only for children? In any case, visit one of the two available on the island (at the PIC and World Resort). For a bird's eye view of the sights, take a helicopter ride. Breathtaking landscapes and an adrenaline rush are guaranteed.

For fans of fishing, there are special places where you can fish for yellowfin or tuna with a fishing rod, and in the summer the season for large fish begins.

For lovers of extreme sports and lost swimming trunks, there is a green light for jet skis, all kinds of banana boats and parasailing. For land-based extreme sports enthusiasts, go-karting, ATVs, water skiing, parachute jumping from a height of 4 kilometers, and sports bicycles await you here. In general, if you analyze it, it’s mainly our compatriots who are into extreme sports here. Asian tourists prefer hiking jungle and bike tours.

A spa salon with all the attendant procedures will help you take a break from such an enhanced cultural program: Thai and Swedish massages, shiatsu massage, mud body peeling, flower baths, restorative procedures after sunbathing.

You can go on a romantic cruise on board cruise ship, watching the sun slowly sink into the calm waters of the Pacific Ocean.

In the evenings Traditional Cultural Center at the top of Tapachao he holds his famous tropical show - folk Hawaiian, Tahitian, Polynesian dances, a dance with fire, and all this with abundant buffet. The Hyatt Hotel puts on a show called "Sand Castle" with professional dance performances, modern ballet, trained animals and birds.

As you travel around Saipan, you'll experience stunning blue skies and scenery you'll want to cherish. Everything here is imbued with rich history and fresh sea breeze. In addition, even children easily adapt to the mild tropical climate.

My friends are students of one of the Moscow Polytechnics - natives of the warm African country of Mozambique. As befits blacks, they love music very much; There is a radio or tape recorder constantly playing in their homes. Once, when I was visiting one of them, a song from the famous Soviet cartoon about Chunga-Changa was broadcast on the radio. The reaction of my quite decent friends to this quite cute children's song was completely inadequate: those who understood the Russian language well laughed homerically; those who did not understand him very well blushed and were embarrassed; those who did not know Russian at all were stunned and amazed.
Of course, I asked for an explanation. And that's what it turned out to be. In their native dialect, the phrase *CHONG CHANGA* means, to put it mildly, *to have sexual intercourse with a monkey*. Here's a children's song for you! It's a pity that its author - Yuri Entin - is not in the know!
And I still sang along:
“Our happiness is constant - chew coconuts, eat bananas, CHUNGA CHANGA”...

CHANGA... WITHOUT CHUNGA!

When, after the Penza Pedagogical Institute, I “worked out” my diploma of higher education in one of the villages of our region, then... I picked up the “local culture” there to the fullest! What struck me most, however, was the drunkenness there. Since this was in 1977-1981, even vodka was not always in the store. And people drank literally everything that had at least a drop of alcohol in it: BF glue, to which they added salt and “untwisted” it on a drilling machine, and even brake fluid passed through bread! It is clear that they died like flies! Well, where is it even worse than here? – I thought then, but I had a chance to find out this just a couple of days ago thanks to the almighty Internet. However, I would like to start my story about this very “worse” thing with something completely different, namely... with the history of the children's song “Chunga-Changa”.

Fragment of the cartoon “Caterok” (dir. I. Kovalevskaya, Soyuzmultfilm, 1970). The song “Chunga-Changa” (lyrics by Yu. Entin, music by V. Shainsky) is performedAnatoly Gorokhov and Aida Vedishcheva

CHANGA... WITHOUT CHUNGA!

“Chunga-Changa - blue sky, Chunga-Changa - summer all year round...” Who among us is not familiar with this song from the Soviet cartoon? "Katerok" , filmed in 1970? However, not everyone knows that it is impossible to use this name for any purpose without violating legal norms, which means it can be prosecuted by law! But there is such a country and people for whom... and "the law is not written" and their morals are special, and besides, the word “ Changa"they pronounce without "chungi".

The law is strong, but it's law!

Let me remind you that the famous song heard in this cartoon "Chunga-changa" performed Anatoly Gorokhova And Aida Vedishcheva, was born through efforts Yuri Entin, who wrote her words, and the composer Vladimir Shainsky- who wrote the music for them. Song title - word "Chunga-Changa" I also came up with this Yuri Entin. And he not only invented it, but even received a patent for this brand, which is confirmed by the certificate issued to him. Two whole years (!) Patent Bureau of the Russian Federation conducted a study and then issued a corresponding document. Now the use of the word "Chunga-Changa" for commercial purposes without the consent of the author is illegal. So if you want to, say, produce candy "Chunga-changa" or bake a cake of the same name with tropical fruits, then... you can totally do it. But at the same time they are obliged to notify the patent holder about this and ultimately pay him a certain percentage of the profit or immediately buy from him the right to use this "trademark". Can this patent be circumvented? Well, of course! If you really want it, then anything is possible! For example, swap the words: "Changa-chunga" - and then this phrase will change and it, in turn, can be patented. This is the so-called "umbrella brand", when cunning people come close to a famous brand in this way. Examples "Smirnoff" , "Dvernoff" , "Mehoff" , "Dvernisazheff" and even "Zamkoff" you can say it's on everyone's lips. You can use one of these two words. Moreover, there is even a country in the world where one of our names is used everywhere. But its meaning is associated with... rampant drunkenness!

SO WHAT IS CHANGA WITHOUT CHUNGA?

Judging by reports from many Russian media, Russia is almost the only country in the world where the population consumes alcohol substitutes in such quantities. However, this is not at all the case, although here we can say that we are far from lagging behind. In the same USA during the period of Prohibition They drank everything, including lily of the valley drops and ginger tincture with alcohol, and even about moonshine "from everything at hand" I might not even remember. By the way, the same thing happened to us again in Russia and precisely the ban on the sale of vodka introduced in 1914, as many historians believe, this is precisely what explains our drunken pogroms, the emptying of the treasury, mass moonshine, the use of surrogates, and drug addiction in major cities. In many ways it is "no alcohol law" contributed to two revolutions at once in 1917.

Well, what about the name itself? Changa, then in African country Kenya so called local moonshine(translation - “Kill me quickly!» ). Today 70% Kenyans drink it, although they associate its use not so much with drunkenness, but with "opposition to unspiritual values Western world» . The production of the drink is controlled by a sect "Munjaki" or "One people", the purpose of which "cleansing" Kenya from all gays and those who read foreign literature.

What is the result? The result is a sad result: up to 40% of Kenya's population are severe alcoholics. At the same time, patriots explain the widespread drunkenness as a heavy legacy of colonialism - they say, it was the British who taught Kenyans to drink alcohol. Well, traces of English influence on Kenyan "culture" alcohol consumption is not difficult to find. After all, Kenyans, like the British, prefer to drink strong alcoholic drinks and beer. By the way, the same picture is observed here, although there is no "British colonialism" We didn’t observe it at all!

CHANG FROM POVERTY?

Because Kenya one of the poorest countries in the world ( GDP per capita 1.5 thousand dollars per year; 100 dollars per month considered a good salary). Therefore, people cannot afford to drink factory-made alcohol, although in stores Nairobi And Mombasa everything there is, including vodka of famous Russian brands! And since “The joy of Kenyans is also drinking” , the moonshine market has flourished in the country. A glass of fiery liquid stands here 20-30 cents(7-10 rubles), which is even cheaper than bread.

Chang'sforms the basis of artisanal alcohol production, and its strength reaches 50-60 degrees. It is made from millet, sorghum or corn, but to make this swill immediately knock you off your feet, kerosene or a means for embalming the dead (!) is often added to it 300-350 ml such a surrogate that a person falls and is forgotten.

Until recently, from the use of surrogates in Kenya died every year up to 12-15 thousand people and this, as it turns out, is a comparable figure to ours. After all in Russia dies from surrogates up to 40 thousand per year, i.e. in Kenya Russian mortality rate, since the country's population 45 million people. But there they clearly drink because of extreme poverty, but why do our surrogates drink?

WHEN GOVERNMENT
RAISES HANDS UP...

Government first Kenya It seems to have set a course for a tough fight against moonshiners. That is, again, everything was exactly the same as in USA in the era "prohibition". In the same way, the police used weapons, as a result, during raids on clandestine factories, dozens were killed on both sides. But the authorities’ crackdown on underground bootleggers led nowhere, and in 2010 the government simply legalized moonshine. The only condition that the authorities set for moonshiners was not to spoil the alcohol with additives like kerosene or battery acid. Those guilty of death by surrogates now face up to five years in prison, but given the total corruption of the investigation and justice, not a single moonshiner has been convicted in these almost four years.

SECTS COME TO HELP!

And this is where assistance to the authorities in their fight against moonshine came from the movement itself "Munzhiki", uniting in its ranks up to 500 thousand men. Apparently they were already fed up with drunkenness. The basis of their teaching is the idea of the people returning to their original African “roots”, and the rejection of the culture of the European colonialists: Christianity, education, and in general the entire Western way of life. They especially hate "munzhiki" homosexuals and... university professors who are hacked to pieces with machetes. "One people" more than once he publicly staged burnings "Western books" (from Shakespeare to Tolkien). Well, a few local readers "unspiritual literature" they just took it and hung it.

Surprisingly, despite all the dissimilarity in culture and traditions, it turns out that from Russia And Kenya very much in common: these are income from the sale of hydrocarbons, and blatant social stratification, and clan politic system. There is another sign - high alcoholization of the population. Is it true, in Nigeria, in contrast from Russia, have found a way to combat drunkenness - these are Sharia laws and the activities of the sect of “traditional men.”

It must be said that the adherents of this movement got down to business thoroughly. They smash, or even simply kill, bootleggers, destroy stocks of bards, and put up posters everywhere depicting the hellish torments awaiting those who drink in the next world.

GOOD FOR THE CLICKY INVENTIONS!

Interestingly, the Kenyans have figured out how to distill moonshine without a moonshine still! They say that people in hot countries are lazy. But laziness is the other side of talent, so one can only envy their invention. You need a bucket (Kenyans don’t waste time on trifles and immediately take a fuel barrel, which is painted black), a saucepan and a piece of plastic film.

The mash is poured into a bucket or barrel, into which a pan is lowered, which should float on its surface. The top of the container is covered with a film with a slight sag so that cold water can be poured into it. You need to make a small hole on the side of the film to communicate with the atmosphere, and you can put the bucket on low heat. But the Kenyans simply leave the black barrel in the hot African sun. When heated, alcohol vapors are released from the stillage, which condense on the inner surface of the film, and due to its sagging in the center, they drip directly into the pan. As the cooling water on the outer surface of the film heats up, it is replaced with cold water, topped up from a mug. And... that's it!
