Ebb and flow of hua hin. Hua Hin City Beach - ideal for walking

We clarify that we are talking about the beaches located on the mainland of Thailand. We will write a separate article about a beach holiday on the Krabi Islands. And in this article we will introduce you to the beaches that you can visit without using the services of boatmen.

Features of the beaches in the province of Krabi.

The first thing I want to draw your attention to is that the quality of the beaches in the province of Krabi is greatly influenced by the positions of the Sun and Moon relative to the Earth. And, to put it simply, ebb and flow. Since our beach holiday on this visit to Thailand began with, where we lived for a week and watched this natural phenomenon on the same beaches, we saw from the rocks how they were exposed at the strongest low tide - the height of the rock that became visible was about two meters!

Therefore, if you do not want to get to the beach at low tide, then on the eve of its visit look at the special ebb schedule, where you can see at what hours in the coming days the tides are expected to ebb and flow, in what stage they will be - at the very maximum or insignificant. Helped us schedule English site.

Let's explain a little how it works. We are currently taking a screenshot. What do we see on the tide map?

Tide chart for Krabi. March-April 2017.

On March 30, 2017, the maximum water is at 1.50 RM. The minimum is at 8.01 PM. And the water level drops on this day are significant. But on April 5 you will not notice a strong water drop, but the water level will not be high either.

By the way, when you go to the chart by the link, you will see a flashing red dot, which will show in which phase of the chart the sea is now.

The second unpleasant moment that we encountered on the beaches of Krabi is jellyfish. On the one hand, these were not very dangerous species (we did not meet anyone seriously stung in Krabi), on the other hand, we did not want to meet them in the water. Therefore, they themselves did not swim where the bottom and inhabitants were not visible. And we advise you to do the same.

We heard about serious contacts with jellyfish from our compatriots on the plane when we were flying home. The invasion of jellyfish in February-March 2017 was in the Hua Hin area. People had to buy wetsuits in order to swim in the sea and not be afraid of contact with these unpleasant and harmless creatures. And the unfortunate stung had to visit doctors.

And now to the best beaches in Thailand! Sorry. Krabi!

Klong Muang Beach

Our favorite on the coast of Krabi was Klong Muang Beach. See for yourself - a wide long strip of sand, coniferous trees that give good shade. And, what is remarkable, there is good water both at low tide and at high tide! There are not many people at all.

Pai Long Beach.

Beach Pai Plong near the hotel Centara Grand Beach Resort Villas we attributed to the category of beaches "for lack of fish and cancer - pike." In the sense that if you chose to stay hotel in ao nang and you can’t or don’t want to go to other beaches, it’s better to go along the “monkey path” (part of the way you have to overcome steps uphill) and swim there than on. We were at a time when the water was receding. The sea was not transparent. Jellyfish on the shore of Ao Nang beach were seen, therefore, in the sea on the beach of Tsentara there was a high probability of meeting with jellyfish (I had to learn a new word when I first saw “jelly” on the shore - suddenly a doctor’s help would be required).

This is how the path to the beach of Centara begins.

View from the trail to Pai Plong Beach.

And, in fact, Pai Plong Beach. There is a guard at the entrance to the beach and informs everyone descending from the mountain that you can move freely along the beach, but you can’t go to the hotel. And we don't need to.

Nature is here… You can see for yourself. Beautiful. But the sea was not impressed.

If you don't want to follow the trail, you can pay 100 TV for the boat from the pier one way.

This is where we wanted to end our photo report. But we decided to end it with a review of the beach, which seemed to us unsuitable for recreation. Where else have we been on the coast of Krabi and we absolutely did not like ...

Ao Nang beach - Nopparat Thara.

Before traveling to the province of Krabi, we, like any self-respecting traveler, collected information about the places where the route was laid. We met a comparison of Ao Nang beach with Phuket's Patong beach. In our opinion, in Ao Nang the beach is even worse than Patong - the water is even muddier, there are many vacationers, there is very little shade in the afternoon, and those who want to lie in the shade on a sun lounger can only dream ...

The length of Ao Nang beach is about one and a half kilometers. Closer to its northwestern part is located, from which those who want to enjoy a beach holiday on the islands begin their boat trip.

You can go from here to and to the beach Centara Grand Hotel

If you are traveling around Thailand by car, it will be very difficult to park in this part of the beach. We didn't succeed. We drove to the southeast of the beach. There were plenty of parking spaces here. And there is much less to go to the "monkey trail".

About the beaches of the province of Krabi, where they get by boat, we will tell you more. But we have already written about.

Greetings, dear travelers! If you decide to go to Hua Hin (Thailand), then you will need this information. The city is located on the western side of the Gulf of Thailand. And it is not surprising that the beaches here are magnificent: wide, long. As a rule, having a small depth.

High tides occur from November to February. At high tide, most of the beaches are simply flooded. But this is a short-lived phenomenon. And the sun appears again, the sea calms down and you can swim 🙂

The weather is of course warm all year round, but there are also cold snaps that there is no desire to swim. Although you can't predict what the weather will be like here. For example, this year January was very hot and windless. It got cold at the end of the month and for about a week I slept under a duvet with the windows closed. And I certainly didn't want to swim. Then the heat and the sun started up again.

On the beaches of Hua Hin, you can easily rent sun loungers, order a Thai massage for about 250 baht. Or you can ride a horse along the shore or just lie down in a lounger. Refreshing cocktails, snacks or a full meal can be brought to you.

These are the VIP loungers on Sai Noi Beach

People often ask: “When does the jellyfish season start in Hua Hin?”. Most often it happens between July and October. But no one knows the exact appearance of these animals. Therefore, here, as with the weather - it can be, or it can carry.

Locals come here to look at the sea and walk on the sand. The edge of the sea is fenced with concrete and dirty. But here you can clearly see the cruisers guarding the residence of the king. There are no sunbeds, sun loungers and other amenities. You can only sit on top and contemplate the endless sea. Swimming is better in the pool.

When we went in April, the tide was high and most of the beach was swallowed up by the sea. I didn't see Europeans here. Only local kids who don't pay attention that I'm filming them 🙂

main beach

It is very long and stretches for about 7 kilometers from the city center to Mount Khao Takiab. Over the past 5 years, it has become more crowded. But still, you can find quiet places away from the main hotels.

The main beach begins from the old pier, which has now begun to be repaired. Near it sell marine life. Locals fish or come just to sit near the water.

When we were here, a military boat moored. Oh, how exciting it was to look at such a boat.

But for rest you need to go closer to the center. For vacationers with children in Hua Hin it will be very convenient, because the sea is too shallow. And you have to go far to cover your head. But so no one goes far, but just start to swim.

On the city beach there is a wide variety of vendors offering all sorts of food from fried corn or hot squid. There are hawkers with local ice cream and roti pancakes. And in the mornings there are such monks.

Sun loungers and deck chairs can be rented. Thai massage is available right on the beach. From water attractions - scooters, bananas, tablets. You can ride a horse along the beach.

Here you will not go hungry. Everywhere a variety of coastal cafes with all sorts of food from seafood, fresh vegetables, rice and other things. And fresh fruit smoothies will keep you from feeling thirsty. Just in case, take a bottle of water with you or buy it right on the beach.

Khao Takiab

It is located about 7 kilometers south of the city center. A large statue of Buddha greets you as you approach the mountain. On the hill there is a temple, on top of which hordes of monkeys live. For this reason, it is often referred to as Monkey Mountain. You can feed the monkeys yourself for a small fee if you don't have a banana with you.

Khao Takiab beach is actually better behind the mountain. It is a kind of blue lagoon, where there is a lot of space and tranquility. There are many cafes on the beach. It is easy to rent sunbeds, umbrellas and book a massage. The shallow water is ideal for children.

There are macaroons and cafes open until 9 pm.

Suan Son - pine/military

South of Khao Takiab is Sua Son Beach. It is about 12 km from the city center. The beach is named after the numerous pine trees that line the area. I was reminded of this vacation in Abkhazia. There was also a pine beach. The aroma of pine oil intoxicates and soothes.

Sua Son Beach is quiet and not crowded. On the one hand, the sea quietly rustles, on the other, coniferous trees sway lazily. If you are going to this beach, take sunbeds and a basket of food with you. Because such a service on Sua Son is presented very modestly. But I found a Ferrari there 🙂

How can I get to: Drive towards Pranburi. From the city center about 10-15 minutes drive. On the central highway you will see a large colorful gas station and a wide turn with markings. You turn there. Go through the barrier to the territory of the military base. Travel is free.

Sai Noi Beach

This is a small lagoon with clear water surrounded on both sides by small mountains. Compared to other beaches, it is small but very private. To get here you need a bike or a car. Because the lagoon is located 15 km from the city center. Here is the road to the beach:

There are rarely crowds here. Therefore, you can easily relax and enjoy the calm atmosphere. In general, it is very calm here. We've been here several times and I've only slept in sunbeds. Well, I posed a little too 🙂

The descent into the sea is quite steep. When entering the water, the depth begins to increase immediately. For this, many people love him. Sunbeds with umbrellas here cost from 40 baht. But there are quite original “VIP-beds”, which I showed at the beginning of the article 🙂 There are several Thai cafes near the access road offering local and European dishes.

And on the top of one mountain (Khao Tao hill) there is a temple, but I will tell about it some other time. You can also find these little mermaids there.

Holidays on the beaches of Hua Hin

Since March, the International Kite Festival has been held in Thailand. It passes near Hua Hin, in the city of Cha-Am. I wrote about one such holiday in an article about the kite festival.

Hua Hin is not without reason nicknamed "a paradise for kitesurfers" - from the end of February to the beginning of March, competitions are held near the city. Soaring "angels on the waves" perform such amazing tricks. If you want, you can take a few kite lessons and buy equipment. These are the angels walking on the beach 🙂

Every year in June, a free jazz festival is held with world-class musicians from all over the kingdom. In the evening, right on the beach, people gather near the concert venue. Listen, dance and have fun. Actually, I wasn't there at the time.

Helpful Hints:

  1. If you are stung by a jellyfish. Locals who run beach restaurants usually have first aid. But it is important to consult a doctor as soon as possible in order to avoid possible complications later. Because burns are unpleasant and take a long time to pass.
  2. Don't lie too long in the sun. Even in the shade, you can easily get burned. It seems like you are lying, the sea breeze cools your hot body. Don't fool yourself. The sun is hot all year round, so you need to protect yourself from the sun.

In the article I tried to describe all the main beaches of Hua Hin, what they have. If you come here and see something new, be sure to write in the comments to the article. The city is constantly changing, growing and surprising. You won't be bored here.

This year a lot of Russians came. They began to write “We say thank you in Russian” in macaroons and on the market 🙂 You walk and feel touched. But it's not like in Pattaya where there are a lot of people. Still, European pensioners come to this resort most of all.

On this I say goodbye to you. I have plenty of information on Hua Hin. Therefore, I will continue to write a series of articles on this city. Don't forget to subscribe to updates to keep abreast of new articles. See you later!

The topic of ebb and flow in Thailand is of interest to many. And this is not surprising, because the position of the moon, which controls the water resources on the planet, depends on whether your vacation will be spoiled. If suddenly you get to the period of low tides, then the beach will be completely unswimmable. The entire bottom will be open almost a kilometer from the shore, with algae visible on it, sea cucumbers, shells, from which sea reptiles pull out their tentacles. In high tides, on the contrary, there is too much water, it literally creeps up to the very edge of the beach, leaving no place to rest. At the same time, the sea behaves quite aggressively, the waves lashing against the edge of the barriers. In general, to find harmony between these two states of the deep sea. And many services are trying to do this, and we will use their help to find out when is the best time to swim in southern Thailand.

Since I lived for two seasons in the southwestern part of Thailand, I will talk about these parts. Namely, the province of Krabi, Phuket and Phang Nga. At least it will be more objective and truthful than I would unknowingly fill in about the rest of the islands, right?

In order to somehow navigate the tide schedule, we will have to turn to those who are directly involved in this. Because, to be honest, all my observations of the beaches for two seasons did not really give any information. I used to think that the ebb and flow is something natural, repeating not only every year, but also every month. After all, the Moon does not seem to change its position relative to the Earth, which means that there should not be any global changes in the behavior of the sea on a particular coast. But I was wrong. Turns out the tides are hard to predict, with a lot of math, like predicting the weather.

The calculation of tides is more often carried out by services associated with fishing. Their income depends on it. After all, the most successful bite happens during high tides, when a wave from the sea brings a lot of fish and other marine inhabitants. I have prepared tables with the tide schedule for the 2013-2014 season. October to March.

From these tables, you can find out on what date of a particular month at what time the high or low tide will occur. The days when the fluctuations between all waves are minimal are ideal for swimming, i.е. the figure in all four columns is approximately equal to one, only slightly deviating from it. If fluctuations from 0.3 to 2.5 meters occur during the day, then the ebbs and flows on these days are pronounced. As a rule, this happens on the days of the full moon, as well as a few days before and after it. The calmest sea on the waning moon and before the new moon.

Tide calendar

I remind you that the data below is only for the provinces of Krabi, Phuket and Phang Nga. It is also worth noting that the figures are only approximate. Depending on the specific beach, the time difference will vary with an interval of 10-25 minutes.

October 2013

November 2013

December 2013

January 2014

February 2014

March 2014

The excellent service prilivy.com was used to compile the tables. If you have not found a timetable for the period you need, or want to see the tides in another part of Thailand, then this site will help you. This is almost the only normal service of this kind, moreover, with perfectly implemented functionality.

Every day we notice that there are more and more Russians and Ukrainians in Hua Hin before our eyes (just yesterday we met Uncle Viktor from Nikolaev; a week before that, a family of our readers arrived from Moscow with three charming daughters, a week later our a friend from Zaporozhye, and so on) ...

Our friends, the guys who first visited these parts in 2010, say that the number of whites in Hua Hin has increased many times in 3 years. Not so long ago there were almost none at all, but now suddenly there are a lot.

It goes without saying that once the tourist flow increases, then various technical issues arise more often. Today's article will be about the Hua Hin climate, which has its own characteristic differences from the climate of other Thai resorts.

* The picture migrated to us from Wikipedia - just in time.

  • Humidity

According to Wikipedia, Hua Hin has a tropical climate "with high humidity and occasional rain." But the one who wrote this clearly does not know what really high humidity is. 🙂 I recommend him to go to Bangkok for a start, and then to Koh Samui, and try to dry his towel there after a shower in the rainy season.

One of the advantages of Hua Hin for us is quite low humidity (as for a Thai resort). Everything is known in comparison, so we compared and realized that the linen dries quickly, things lying in the closet for a long time do not get moldy and do not acquire a characteristic smell, and they do not even have to be hung under the sun once a week. But definitely, if your body is not used to the Thai climate, then for the first few days the air will seem heavy to you even in Hua Hin. Also keep in mind that the humidity in Hua Hin depends on the season. As you can see in the table, for example, in October there are 17 rainy days, and in January there are only two. At the same time, the amount of precipitation falling during these months differs by as much as 16 times.

  • seasonality

The reason for the striking seasonal differences is the type of climate in Hua Hin. It is called tropical climate with dry winters and rainy summers (or tropical savannah climate). In fact, there are three seasons in Hua Hin, which I will write about below. This type of climate is typical for a fairly large area of Thailand. Since Hua Hin is located on the coast of the Gulf of Thailand, the proximity of the sea also leaves its mark.

  • Windiness

Wind in Hua Hin is a common thing, especially in winter. Thanks to this, Hua Hin won fame among fans of such a sport as kitesurfing (riding a board with a “kite” or kite). Of course, the wind is much more inconvenient at -20 than at +25, but the summer wind can be unpleasant. We all know how popular transport in Thailand is a motorbike. So riding a moped is much more difficult in strong winds.

Bent and broken trees in Hua Hin are not uncommon

  • Water temperature in Hua Hin

By our Black Sea standards, the water in the Gulf of Thailand is always very warm. In winter +26, in summer +28, so even sometimes I would like it to be cooler. But this is all for an amateur, of course - someone generally prefers not to swim in the sea, but to contemplate it.

It goes without saying that the water temperature may vary depending on the weather, time of day, beach, wind direction, etc. I can add that strong waves are often observed in winter Hua Hin, and Khao Takiab beach is relatively calm, which is located behind the mountain of the same name, and it partially protects it from winds and waves.

Seasons in Hua Hin

  • Cool and dry season (November/December - February)

This season is characterized by high tides, lack of precipitation and cool weather. The air temperature in the winter dry season usually fluctuates around 27 ... 28 degrees. In the evening it is quite cool, and at night the temperature can drop to an incredible 17 degrees ... Although this does not happen every year, so the locals consider it almost a frost and a natural disaster.

The absolute record low temperature in Hua Hin is 13.9 degrees. So there are warm blankets in almost every home. =)

  • Hot season (March - June)

According to eyewitnesses, the hot season of Hua Hin is still not as hot as, say, in Bangkok. In April of this year, we experienced what it's like to be hot (+43 in the shade and 99% humidity). The hot season in Hua Hin is much more gentle - during the day the air warms up to + 30 ... 35 degrees, and the nights remain very comfortable at + 24 ... 25. During the hot season, the tides are not so strong and the wind dies down, so the kite surfing season closes at the end of February.

  • Rainy season in Hua Hin (June - October/November)

Once I wrote about - for us it was a real miracle of nature. It is one thing to read other people's reviews about the rainy season, and another thing to visit the epicenter of events, when the rain is continuously pouring (it is pouring) in a continuous stream for 24 ... 48 ... 72 or more hours.

This is a good time to take care of your household chores, and especially if you work from home (and your house doesn't even have lights and internet out due to flooding). If you need to go to the border run, to the dentist, for some other urgent business, or the strategic stocks of rice, chicken, mango, or without which you cannot live there, suddenly run out, then you need a pickup truck.))) the rainy season on Koh Samui, almost all Thais switched from bikes to pickups. But if not, then you need a raincoat. And yet, it still won't help! But you can feel like a super-hero, carrying out the most important task - as if the fate of the world depends on whether you buy cucumbers and pineapple today. =)

But surprisingly, the rainy season in Hua Hin is not at all like that, since the climate here is not monsoonal, but savanna type. From June to October, the greatest amount of precipitation falls in the 20th century, the weather is more often cloudy, and the air temperature on such days drops to +28. However, catastrophic rains, pouring without interruption for weeks, are practically excluded here. Moreover, the city's drainage system is so badly done that if it rains for only half a day without a break, the streets are flooded and traffic is often paralyzed.

I think if there was a real rainy season in Hua Hin, like on Koh Samui, then something would have been done with the drainage system of the royal resort a long time ago ... Although let's not guess. =)

Weather Hua Hin today

So, now about today's weather.

If on islands such as Koh Samui, weather forecasts often lie, and we generally had the impression that they were drawn from a lantern, then in Hua Hin this is completely in order. I think the reason is not the negligence of the hydrometeorological center, but that the weather on the islands is determined by a much larger number of factors than the weather on the mainland. Currents, storms, ebbs and flows, plus if there are still mountains on the islands, they can trap air masses or change their direction ...

In addition to the weather forecasting services that are popular with us (gismeteo, weather forecaster ...), I can advise you to try the windfinder service. In addition to fairly accurate forecasts of temperatures and weather types, it offers to find out the strength of the wind and much more. But, of course, at this stage, I have not heard that there are any ideal forecasts - they are all sometimes wrong.

Many more are interested in the tide charts in Hua Hin. Personally, we do not use such services, but I know that people use this site. What to watch there is a mystery to me, but with a strong desire, I think you can figure it out. 😉

That's all. If you have something to add, please leave your comments.

And we have a fresh review of the holiday in Hua Hin, where Olga rested with her husband and grandson. Thank you❤️ ⠀ Well, after almost 2 weeks, as we are at home, having redone a bunch of things, I'm ready during our almost month-long vacation, I received a lot of questions, like: "where are you? what kind of country? what kind of city is this? can whether to go with children? what kind of food? how is the sea? how is the beach? Hua Hin City!!! Hua Hin is the mainland! It's a completely different Thailand! As my friend said, who has already studied Thai in full, who has been living in Pattaya for half a year, Hua Hin is a Europeanized Thai! And I agree with that! A wonderful place, with a beautiful clean beach... light sand, beautiful, transparent sea, and that is not enough
