Pai city in Thailand. Pai is a very soulful town in the North of Thailand

The road from Chiang Mai to Pai was unexpectedly difficult. I will not describe the details, I will only say that all the windows of our minibus were occupied, and the driver would have to stop by the car wash. The path to Pai, although not long, is laid through the mountains along a hard serpentine. At the first stop, Nika and I bought pills for motion sickness, and this saved us, while everyone else vomited literally everything there. The driver at the same time categorically did not want to stop, apparently this is a standard situation. Well, everything else was wonderful, somehow in about three hours we reached Pai.

Arriving at the place, we, like all our fellow travelers, first of all rented a bike. Bikes in Pai can only be rented in one place, there are several rental services a few measures from the final stop. So if you are planning to rent a bike, then it is better to do it right away, this pleasure is worth 100 baht for one day.

In general, Pai is a very touristic city, so finding a guest house or a good resort there will not be a problem. At the bike rental point, we took a map of the city, on which all the main resorts are marked with the indicated prices. After the exhaustingly hot nights in Chiang Mai, we decided that we needed to take an air-conditioned cabin. So they did. We rented a house in a good resort for 600 baht. But after the first night, we realized that there was no point in air conditioning. During the day in Pai, the heat is 35 degrees, and at night it is cold. So the next day we moved to another resort for 250 baht.

General impressions of the city

From Pai we were completely delighted. This is such a town where you want to come for a while to take a break from the bustle of the city and recharge your creative energy. All tourists here, mostly European hippie backpackers and Asians, all very cheerful positive guys without complexes. In general, Pai leaves a strong impression of the city's hippies. Anyone who is not confused by luxury will love it here.

Well, the most striking impression, of course, is made by mountain landscapes in the vicinity of the city, especially on the way to the Lod cave, we shot a separate video about it. Now it is true that Thailand is in the dry season, and all the mountains are covered with haze (due to numerous forest fires), but it is still very beautiful, especially in the evening.

Fire in the forest

And in Pai there are a lot of different shops that sell all sorts of unnecessary handmade items, it was very difficult for Nika to pull them out of them.

The only thing that disappointed us in Pai is that here you will not find fresh fruits during the day with fire. We traveled all over the city, but did not find a single fruit market.

Attractions Pai

As I already said, at the bike rental point we took a map of the city, on which two tourist routes along Pai are marked. We rode a small route on the first day, there was nothing particularly interesting there. But the next day we visited the three main attractions of Pai, about which we filmed a video and took a few photos. Below I will briefly describe each of them.

This is a must-see for all tourists visiting Pai. The canyon does not make a particularly strong impression, but it is still quite beautiful there, and this place is definitely worth the time spent on it.

The source is open to the public from 7 am to 6 pm. Entrance is paid, 200 baht for foreign tourists and 40 baht for Thais or holders of a Thai driver's license. Active construction is currently underway on the territory of the source, but despite this, you can have a great time there. The temperature of the water in the fonts is 35 degrees. After bathing in hot water, you feel very comfortable in the air, even in the heat.

On the way to the hot spring, there is another attraction of Pai - the memorial bridge:

Cave Lod (Lod Cave)

Well, the last attraction, which in our opinion is the main attraction of Pai, is the Lod Cave. It is located on the opposite side of the small and large tourist routes indicated on the map of Pai. Go to it, about 45 km. There are signs to the cave along the way, but it is better to periodically ask the locals for directions. The road to the cave is laid along a mountain serpentine and along the way, gorgeous views of the mountains and rice fields open up.

We paid 550 baht to enter the Lod Cave (150 baht for a guide with a lamp and 400 baht for a raft). This price is for a group of 1-3 people.

The entire tour lasts about an hour and a half. You load onto bamboo rafts and float through a huge cave, stopping several times and walking through its halls. This is probably one of the most memorable excursions that Nika and I have ever visited. It's actually really cool there. Unfortunately, it is not visible on the video, but the cave is really huge and makes a huge impression.

Video of our visit to Lod Cave in Pai:

Of course, these are not all the sights of Pai, but for the first time we had enough impressions. Next time we plan to come back here in the rainy season, when we can go to the waterfalls and admire the mountain scenery without haze. Well, tomorrow morning we leave for Chiang Dao (but we arrive at). From Pai, you can get there only through Chiang Mai , so we again expect an overly intense mountain crossing.

After passing Soppong, the road winds its way through the last stretches of wilderness in Mae Hong Son Province before descending into the wide, tranquil Pai Valley, 43 meters from Soppong. Pai was once seen as a respite on the tedious journey to Pai, but today it has become a self-sufficient place to visit, and travelers live for weeks, and sometimes months, in the detached silence of this city.

In Pai, there are no special ones, but you can do any kind of outdoor activity, take a general course of therapy or just shop in art studios, bookstores, leather and jewelry stores. And the guesthouses and restaurants cater to the constant stream of travelers arriving by bus that takes 4 hours from Chiang Mai. The small traditional buildings of the city are located near the bus stop in the northern part of the city. The main street, Thanon Rungsiyanon, is lined with mountain peoples, whimsically blending in with the crowd of Thai Muslims and Westerners.

Pai bus station is located near the intersection of Thanon Rungsiyanon and Thanon Chaisongkhram. Motorcycle taxis can be taken at the very intersection, air-conditioned taxi minibuses stand on the east side of the bus station. The most reliable place to rent a motorcycle is Aya Service (Thanon Chaisongkhram), a travel agency that charges 80 baht per day, not including insurance, which will cost another 40-80 baht. Duang Guest House offers mountain bike rental (50-80 baht).

You can make an international call at the post office at the south end of Thanon Khet Kalang. Several shops at the crossroads of Thanon Rungsiyanon and Thanon Ratchdamrong offer internet access. The tourist police is located just south of the city on the road to. The oldest of several bookstores in Pai, Siam Used Books, owned by an Irish owner, is located on Thanon Rungsiyanon Street and has a good selection of books.

Food and drink in Pai

As in the situation with boarding houses, new, more and more sophisticated restaurants open almost every week in Pai. In the evenings, travelers like to gather at We Wor, in the south of the city, opposite the prominent View Pai Hotel. This is a large, well designed bar with billiards and live music.

A place to have a quiet drink (and offer limited menus such as sushi that must be ordered in advance) is EdibleJazz, a garden cafe and bar located on a quiet green path off Thanon Chaisongkhram. It plays excellent jazz and funk music.

1). Cafe All Abut Coffee– Excellent coffee of all kinds (from 35 baht) in a characteristic wooden coffee shop, where the walls are hung with modern works of art (for sale). 2). Baan Benjarong Restaurant– In a city where you can find everything from sushi to falafel, a good Thai restaurant eventually appeared, serving a wide range of traditional Thai dishes - banana flower salad (yam hua pri) (80 baht) is especially tasty. The open space itself, with a small terrace behind, also looks good. Location: South end of town, opposite the prominent View Pai Hotel;

3). Cafe Chez Swan– Delicious traditional French dishes, cheese and wines in an attractive wooden cafe. Location: Thanon Rungsiyanon;

Around Pai

In the vicinity of Pai, you can make some easy walks along a wide sloping valley. The easiest of them, taking an hour there and back, is over the bridge over the river to the east side of the city and further into the mountains, to Wat Mae Yen, which offers stunning views of the entire area. On the way to the wat, you will pass by the largest outdoor pool in the city (daily from 9.00 to 19.00; 60 baht, children - 20 baht), where food and drinks are offered, and there is also a billiards.

An unpaved road leaves the city to the west (you can ride a motorcycle). It comes from the Pai hospital, past Wat Nam Hu, standing 3 kilometers away, where holy water is contained in an unusually fixed bundle on the head of a Buddha statue. The road gradually ascends, passing the relatively well-developed villages of the Lisu and Lahu peoples, as well as the Chinese of the Kuomintang party, and leads to the Mo Pang Falls, 10 kilometers from Pai, with a pool where you can swim.

Pai is considered a good base for hiking in the area. Travel can be arranged for 700 baht per day (plus approximately 250 baht each for rafting or elephant riding) at trustworthy guesthouses and travel agencies. Among them are Duang Guest House and Back Trax Company (17 Thanon Chaisongkhram). The area has many Karen, Lisu and Lahu villages, and the terrain varies from jungle to bamboo forests, from hills to flat valleys, and from caves to waterfalls.

In the north of the city, hiking can be combined with bamboo rafting and elephant riding, but there are too many tourists here, while the area in the south is very quiet and untouched by civilization, where many different hill tribes live. The most intrepid travelers can hike southwest to Mae Hong Son. The journey will take 5 days. If you don't want to walk but just raft on bamboo rafts, Back Tmar and a dozen other agencies can provide delivery and a half-day trip on the Pai River for about 500 baht per person.

Among several elephant orphanages around the city, you can visit Joy 5 kilometers from Wat Mae Yen on the secondary road to the hot springs. Their office is located on Thanon Chaisongkhran street, in front of the bus stop, they offer a little different than in other places. You can go on an elephant ride (from 300 baht per hour per person, minimum 2 people), which includes entering the river with an elephant and feeding, as well as a free swim in the pool at the hot springs. In addition, you can volunteer at the nursery, bringing elephants out of the forest in the morning, cutting bananas from trees for feeding, and swimming with the elephants in the river. You can live in a simple bamboo bungalow in a picturesque area, where there is a restaurant serving vegetarian and meat dishes of Thai, Vietnamese and Western cuisines.

If you can afford to spend a little more cash, you can get to know a reliable and qualified agency with the French management of Thai Adventure Rafting. Don't confuse this agency with the spoofed Pai Adventure Rafting, which has an office next to Chez Swan on Thanon Rungsiyanon Street. Here they arrange rafting on the Pai River to Mae Hong Son along the gorges and several rapids of the 3rd-4th category of difficulty, with a visit to waterfalls and hot springs. The trip takes 2 days, including an overnight stay in a comfortable jungle camp near the river, and costs 2,000 baht per person. The season runs from July to January. The highest water level occurs in August and early September.

The secondary road south of Wat Mae Yen, behind the Joy Elephant Orphanage, or the side road to the left of the main road just after the Pai bridge, will take you to the hot springs. Near the springs there are two rough-hewn pools with very hot water. They are of little interest, although there is a good campground here. You'd better go to one of the nearby spas, where the pipes supply water from the springs. Thapai Spa Camping is on a side road about 1 km north of the springs, has a large shady pool (50 baht) and offers massages, mud therapy and other similar treatments. There are rooms with spa baths (and tent rentals are also available), but to stay in the area, you'd better head to the nicer and prettier Spa Exotic Home next door.

Massage is carried out in several places in the city. Mr Jan's Guest House is famous for its Thai and Burmese-Shan massages (150 baht per hour) and saunas (50 baht). Pai Traditional Thai Massage (PTTM) on Thanon Ratchadamrong also offers well-established massages. (150 baht per hour), in addition - massage of the feet, face, oil and hand massage (200 baht per hour) and sauna (70 baht). There are also three-day massage courses (2500 baht). Pai Cookery School next to Mr Jan's Guest House on the street parallel to Thanon Chaisongkhram runs Thai cooking classes lasting from 1 to 3 days.

  • From Pai to Chiang Mai

Passing the Pai Valley, Route 1095 climbs for 35 kilometers, replete with hairpin turns and beautiful views of the 2175-meter mountain Doi Chiang Dao towering in the north, passing near its summit. In the cool season, if you leave Pai by car an hour before dawn, you can witness the most famous spectacle in the world - see the sun rise from the smoky haze of Hua Nam Dang National Park (200 baht) (Huay Nam Dang National Park). The pointer to the observation deck is on the left after 30 kilometers from Pai. Turn here and drive another 6 kilometers to the park office.

After the 1300-meter section, the road descends steeply on the southern slopes into the shadow of Doi Mae Ya (2005 meters), and then its path lies along narrow, more populated lowlands. After 55 kilometers (at kilometer post 42), after a left turn of 6.5 kilometers, you will ride like a roller coaster - over the hills to the hot springs of Pong Duet (Pong Duet), the burning jets of which beat 4 meters up, in the cool season, lifting there is plenty of steam around. A couple of hundred meters below the keys, you can take a bath in one of the several pools, choosing the temperature to your liking.

The last point of interest on this route is Mokfa Falls (within Doi Suthep National Park; 200 baht). A cascade of water falls from 30 meters into a sand-lined pool, ideal for swimming, and next to it you can have a wonderful rest. The waterfall is located 2 kilometers from the main road, 76 kilometers from Pai. At Mae Malai, you finally need to turn right onto the busy Highway 107 and drive the remaining 34 kilometers amid a huge number of cars flying at crazy speeds to the wide plain of Chiang Mai rice fields.

In contact with

Pai is located in the north of Thailand, in the vicinity of the second largest city in Thailand. You can get to it in several ways: by rented car or motorbike, by bus or by plane. The road is an endless serpentine, as Pai is surrounded by mountains. Therefore, traveling on a motorbike is not suitable for everyone. But a more comfortable bus or car is more suitable for this purpose. Although even there you will almost certainly be rocked. The road will take about 3 hours, and the distance to be overcome from Chiang Mai is 134 km. You can also get to Pai from other cities in Thailand.

What to see in Pai.

This place is more like not a city, but a small village or town. The nature of Pai is perfect for a peaceful holiday away from noisy cities and wild nightlife. And the lowest prices in Thailand will please. The cost of bungalows and guesthouses in Pai starts from 150 baht, which is about 170 rubles. per night. The price increases depending on the level of comfort. The cheapest bungalows in their decoration have only a bed and a hammock outside. They are made in the style of straw houses. During the season from November to February, there may be problems with housing, so it is better to book houses for yourself in advance.

What attracts tourists here?
To begin with, it is worth mentioning the local population. Since 1990, this place has become the abode of hippies. They smoothly moved to these neighborhoods from Chiang Mai. Accordingly, the population of Pai can be considered its main attraction. All residents are very friendly, you will never see drugs or crime on the streets of Pai. This place is saturated with kindness, warmth and comfort. And on the streets there are a fairly large number of police officers who closely monitor the order and everything that happens in the city. Therefore, the safety of tourists is ensured.

And what attracts the tourist mass in Pai? So everything is simple here. Nature. The climatic conditions of Pai are very similar to the Russian summer. During the day about 30 degrees, at night around 15-20. Humidity is not high. Around the mountains, waterfalls, a small river, after which Pai was named. And there are also many temples, an elephant "farm", where it is very cheap, compared to other places in Thailand, you can ride them (up to 600 baht).

Of the entertainment, one can note Pie's own Walking Street. This street, following the example of the present, comes to life in the late afternoon. Only here in Pai there are no go-go bars, nightclubs and large entertainment centers. But there are many interesting cafes, bars, shops that sell things made by local residents (hand made). And in Pai there are a large number of massage parlors, namely massage parlors without additional sex services as in large resorts. Prices are around 150 baht everywhere. The most popular cafe in Pai is Coffee in Love. They serve delicious cakes and coffee. And on the streets there is a brisk sale of all kinds of teas.

The most famous sights of Pai.

First, of course canyon. It is located about 8 km from Pai. The view from the observation deck to the surroundings is magnificent. But you need to walk there very carefully, since all the paths are quite narrow, and the cliff is nearby. The depth reaches 50 m.

The second main attraction is Chinese village. Founded by fugitive Chinese in the 20th century. The color fully justifies all ideas about China. Houses in the original style, everything is interesting, especially for those who have not yet been to China itself. All sorts of teas are grown in the village and sold there. And in the Chinese village there are various restaurants with national cuisine and not only.
And at the entrance to the share is the third attraction - Memorial Bridge of the Second World War. In general, an unremarkable building, except for its history.

There are 3 waterfalls in the vicinity of Pai. If your journey is long, then you can try to get to the most inaccessible of them - Me Yen. Most of the way will pass through wild forests, and the mountain river will constantly meet on the way to the waterfall. So, if you like extreme sports, this waterfall is worth a visit.
But the road to the Mo Peng waterfall is perfect for tourists, civilized transport, and a good road to the waterfall are quite suitable for people who love comfortable conditions on vacation. The waterfall itself is multi-level. Crosses the green valley, and its pools are very famous among tourists and not only.

The third Pam Bok waterfall is located near the canyon. The waterfall is surrounded by rocks, so here even in the dry season you can swim and not feel the heat.

In late March - early April, you can catch a very interesting event taking place in Me Hong Son. The Poi Sang Long Festival is a three-day celebration in honor of the initiation of young men from 7 to 14 years old into the rank of "beginners" of Buddhism. This event is accompanied by ceremonial processions with an abundance of musical accompaniment, bright colors and events. Pai Yai is a dance show that can be watched directly in Pai in the evenings at a fair near the temple.

Pai Thailand is a small unknown town in Thailand. But that's just now. Over time, tourism will definitely come to this pretty and non-standard place.

For many, Thailand is a vacation on the islands: the famous Koh Phangan, Koh Samui, Koh Tao... Having visited the islands in November, I thought: this is the real Thailand, such a beautiful and green paradise. Now, having traveled to the north of the country, I can’t decide where is really cooler and which of the places gives a greater impression of Thailand. And how much more is unknown .. Oh, Thailand ... I will write about Koh Phangan in more detail later. Comparing the northern and insular parts is stupid, because. places are different. And not only because there is a sea on the islands, and mountains in the north. They are different in atmosphere, people. Both are very beautiful.

I have long wanted to get here, to the north of Thailand. View of the mountains, northern and Chiang Rai. In my imagination, everything seemed like a kind of backwater with beautiful nature. So we got from to Chiang Mai.

When there was nothing left to do in Chiang Mai, we decided to go to Pai Thailand- a popular village among hippies, artists and musicians, which is 150 km to the north. Village Pai Thailand is located in the mountains, and we hoped to get the long-awaited coolness and admire the beauties of nature. Our dreams and expectations were destroyed by another driver, saying the favorite phrase of all Asians: SAME SAME, which means that we have nothing to hope for. On the way to Pai Thailand passed strawberry farms, orange and mango orchards. The road is difficult, as the driver said - serpaniin of 764 turns, but picturesque.
And so we arrived in a small town Pai Thailand(actually spelled Pai). Pai turned out to be not quite a village: there are several supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, hotels and banks - in general, the development of tourism has done its job. I think that it is very picturesque here after the rainy season, that is, in December-January, and this place could become one of our favorites. But Pai Thailand it's not my fault that we arrived in March, and nature does not have bad weather, so we had to be content with what we have.

What a small, cool, sincere, fashionable, beautiful and green city this city is. Pai Thailand! It reminded me of Ubud in Bali, only much more comfortable, with a panorama of mountains and its own, different atmosphere. Such a small party village. There are a lot of European youth here, a lot of backpackers, there are those who live for 2-3 months, or even for several years. There are 2 main muay thai halls, yoga, of course, and a bunch of cafes. Evening walking street in Pae Thailand comes to life, turns into the main street :) Pae Thailand you can try everything: Thai milk tea, street pad thai, mango sticky rice, banana pancakes, tropical ice cream, etc (I held on as best I could). All this is mixed with shops with bloomers of all colors and sizes and T-shirts with elephant-buddha-rickshaws ... There are several (civilization!!). IN Pai Thailand there are two main food markets: one is some kind of vegetable market (rather for locals). Nearby in the evening, all sorts of interesting shops open: they sell local sweets made from coconut and legumes, mushrooms, and other interesting things. Another market in the center Paya Thailand: fruits in assortment, spices, tobacco, shops littered with local spices and products. There is also a food court where you can eat cheap and hearty (30 baht), but only if you are not a vegetarian (otherwise you need to be able to explain what you need very intelligibly).

Accommodation in Pai Thailand

Housing in Pae Thailand a lot, just look after a long journey is not always the strength. It makes sense to spend the night in any guesthouse (150-250 baht / night), take a bike (100-150 baht per day) and look for something that suits you. There are a lot of housing in Pai, and since there are not so many tourists, the prices here are generally magical. In fact, even on the booking site you can find a hotel for 276 rubles for two. And if we take a little more expensive, we get a room with all amenities, for example.

3-star hotel - 552 rubles for two.

Or more expensive, 598 rubles for two.

A room in a hotel with a swimming pool - 2200 rubles for two.

4-star hotel in the city of Pai Thailand - 1617 rubles for two.

There is a choice of housing. So if you plan to visit Pai in Thailand, I advise you to familiarize yourself with the prices and book on the hotellok website.

Attractions of Pai in Thailand

Around Paya Thailand There are many places to go and things to see. In fact, there are quite a few here: waterfalls, a canyon, hot springs, mountains ... All this is scattered around, so we rented a scooter. Main points of interest Paya Thailand: several waterfalls, thermal springs with original signs for tourists, land split (earth break). Near this fault there is a local fruit farm: you can have a free fruit snack and drink rosalie juice. The road to the hot springs tickled your nerves - you can get there along a serpentine, sometimes overcoming uphills and sharp downhills. Roller coaster, in short. Of the two waterfalls we visited in Pae Thailand only one was operational - the second did not work. But they drove past a real, non-tourist village, through the fields, inhaling the aroma of wild flowers and garlic, which someone picked in the garden))
And finally, the canyon near the city Pai Thailand. We arrived there in the evening to watch the sunset. Canyon Paya Thailand I liked it - sometimes you need to walk along a path less than a meter wide, and there are cliffs on both sides. The trails go up and down. Not recommended for those who are afraid of heights.
At all, Pai Thailand- a nice place, we spent 3 days there, slept well, gained strength, there was time to plan a little route around Myanmar.

Neighboring town of Mae Khon Son next to Pai

The neighboring town of Mae Hong Son is a separate issue altogether. The town itself is very small. Honestly, we went there for the sake of the road, and this is another trip with several beautiful places along the way. Route 1095 is a serpentine that rises into the mountains, and then smoothly goes down. The sharpness of turns sometimes rolls over. The views are just unreal. Everything is green, the air is fragrant, you can breathe deeply. The locals greet, smile and wave. Passing by, you see how people live here: small houses, rice fields with shelters in case of rain. And endless mountains. Those seen in the distance are blue, those that are closer are covered with greens of all shades. On a bike, when the space around is open, you can fully enjoy the views and nature around. By car, I think, not the feeling.
Despite the large number of tourists and actively having fun young people, Pai Thailand- Quiet enough. We spent the rest of the day enjoying this tranquility. Only the howls of cicadas and geckos were heard, and, occasionally, falling ripe mangoes ...)

The Pai River flows through the territory of two states: Thailand and Myanmar. The length of the river is 180 kilometers. Its shores are covered with impenetrable jungle. Many locals build boat houses and live right on the water.

Pai is the most popular river in Thailand for rafting. Its sections have a category of difficulty from the first to the fifth, which means that the river is of interest to rafters of any skill level. There are three main routes for rafting: from the source of Pai to the town of the same name, from Pai (city) to the Muang area and from the village of Ban Huai Dua to the village of Ban Nam Piang Din.

Diamond Muay Thai training camp

Diamond Muay Thai training camp is a camp where real Thai boxing is taught. It is located on Koh Phangan near the Gulf of Thailand. The camp trains both professional wrestlers and amateurs who want to know the basics of wrestling and self-defense. The best fighters in Thailand train here. Pai Valley

The Pai Valley was once the center of the drug trade. The local favorable climate made it possible to grow a huge amount of poppy with a high content of opium. A lot has changed since then. Poppies in the fields have given way to other flowers. And now the Pai Valley is a fabulous meadow with many colorful and fragrant flowers, over which exotic butterflies circle, collecting sweet pollen on their paws.

It is as if time has stopped here. Nobody is in a hurry. Numerous tourist groups come here during the day to enjoy the stunning views and delicious strawberries that grow here all year round. And at night, clubs open, and a motley audience flocks to them.

There are also some attractions here - the Pai hot spring, a Buddhist temple, the Mo Paeng waterfall and the ancient Chinese village of Ban Santichon.

The Mor Paeng waterfall in Thailand has several advantages at once. Firstly, it is located very close to the city of Pai. Secondly, it is in a chic location with great views. Thirdly, to see it, you do not need to pay. Most of the picturesque waterfalls in Thailand are located in national parks, for which you have to pay to enter. And Mor Paeng is available to everyone. This makes the waterfall very popular.

It is rarely deserted here. Someone sits and contemplates the view of falling water against the backdrop of a beautiful landscape and listens to the sounds of nature, someone conquers the rocks from which the waterfall flows, someone bathes in the reservoir formed by Mor Paeng. True, the water here is usually very cold.

The height of the water fall is about 15 meters. But the angle of incidence is quite small, so the waterfall seems to flow lazily, sprawling over the expressive rock, like steps. The water does not dry up all year round, but the most beautiful view of the falls opens during the rainy season.

memorial bridge

In general, at first glance, this dilapidated bridge is nothing special. But for Thai tourists, it is a kind of symbol.

It is often believed that this bridge was built by Japanese soldiers. Already during the Second World War, the Japanese began several projects to improve the efficiency of transport links between Thailand and Burma. But, contrary to the opinion that the bridge over the Pai River was built by the Japanese as part of these projects, it was built by the Thais themselves to improve transport links in this area.

With a hazy history and scenic surroundings, this reinforced concrete bridge is now a popular tourist attraction.
