I really like vacationing in the Nordic countries. And on this vacation, I did not ignore Sweden - one of the most beautiful, in my opinion, countries on the Scandinavian Peninsula. Having seen enough of the beauty of the country, we went to the capital of the Netherlands. Yes, the distance is not close, but what I like about traveling around Europe is that traveling even between distant points is not particularly difficult. Having decided on the dates, I began to study the proposals.

By bus

Although the distance between cities is quite large, some tourists fundamentally use exclusively by land transport: by train or bus. Traveling to Amsterdam by train is very inconvenient due to the many changes that you have to make. But with buses the situation is different. You can get from Stockholm to Amsterdam by Flixbus buses with just one change in Berlin or Hamburg. True, the journey will take more than a day, which is quite tiring.

The bus connecting in Berlin departs at 13:45, arriving in Amsterdam the next day at 17:50. The transfer takes almost two hours, which is enough to go to another platform and have a snack.

Getting there with a transfer in Hamburg is a little faster. The bus leaves Stockholm at 23:10, arriving in Amsterdam exactly 24 hours later – at 23:30. The transfer time takes a little over two hours. The bus station in Stockholm is right next to railway station cities.

The bus station is large and has everything a tourist needs: waiting rooms, cafes, exchange offices, toilets, etc.

In Amsterdam, buses arrive at a bus station, also located near the train station.

What is the price

Bus travel is not cheap. One way you will have to pay from 104.50 euros. However, the price already includes a ferry crossing between Denmark and Germany.

Where can I buy

The easiest way to purchase a ticket is on the Flixbus website, which also supports the Russian language.

By plane

Direct flights between the capitals of Sweden and the Netherlands are operated by three airlines: the Dutch KLM, the Swedish SAS, and the Norwegian Norwegian Air Shuttle.

KLM aircraft depart from Stockholm at 06:30, 09:35, 13:05, 17:35, 19:50. The journey takes exactly two hours or a couple of minutes more. There are also flights with transfers, but in this case the flight will be longer and more expensive.

By car

Let me note right away that traveling by car is not the best solution. Firstly, it's a bit far, in my opinion. Secondly, it's expensive. Gasoline in Sweden and Germany costs 1.45 euros per liter, in the Netherlands it is even more expensive – from 1.64 euros. Thirdly, it will be necessary to cross the strait between Denmark and Germany, adjusting to the ferry schedule.

The route itself is, in general, not difficult. The cities are connected by the European route E4.

Travel on the roads of Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands is still free (I say “for now”, since in Germany, for example, it is planned to charge tolls from 2019).

Since the countries are part of the Schengen zone, crossing borders is very simple: there are virtually no borders.

Renting a car if you do not plan to return back to will be difficult. Not every rental company will allow you to rent a car in one country and return it to another. If you plan to return to, then you can find options from 70 euros per day. Search profitable offer costs via the Internet, for example.

We got to Amsterdam by plane. After analyzing all the options, it turned out that this is not only the fastest, but also the most cheap option.

On the Internet I also found the following way to get to Amsterdam: first by ferry to Riga, and from there by bus to Amsterdam. But this option will take almost two days, and will cost you many times more, so I rejected it immediately.

One day I was sitting at home in rainy weather and thought, why not plan a route for yourself? And the reason for my thoughts was a trip to Stockholm planned soon. And I decided to combine these routes. So how can you get from Stockholm to?

By car

Travel time will take about 15 hours. But you should understand that you will need to cross foreign countries and take a ferry. So I started planning a route: the route starts from Stockholm and you need to find the Centralbron, Söderledstunneln route and continue towards Denmark. Traffic will pass along Johanneshovsbron and exit onto Road No. 75 (Johanneshov) - about 5.5 km. Then head along E4 and E20 towards Rødby (Danmark) - about 804 km. You will need to travel across Denmark and take the ferry to Puttgarden. The ferry route from Rødby to Puttgarden connects Denmark with Germany. On this moment only one company operates on this route - Scandlines. The ferry departs up to 48 times a day, with a crossing duration of 45 minutes. The duration and frequency of crossings on the Rødby-Puttgarden route may vary depending on the season.

Ferry ticket prices

The ferry price depends on the departure period and how the ticket is purchased in advance, as well as on the ticket category. On average, the price will be about 75-85 euros (economy ticket). The ferry is very comfortable. During the crossing you can eat in a cafe and go shopping. The ferry runs so often that everything is thought out very conveniently.

Buying tickets

You can purchase tickets on the Scandlines website.

After the ferry arrives, continue along the B207 (about 25 km) and then take the A1, A30 and A1 towards Gooiseweg/s112 (Amsterdam-Oost, Amsterdam, Nederland). Take exit A10/E35 (approx. 578 km). Then continue along s112. Head towards Sint Antoniesbreestraat (Centrum). And you are at the goal. In the center of Amsterdam.

The route may not be too easy, but at the same time, if you have the time and desire to travel, then you can very well choose this route. Along the entire route there are many gas stations and cafes with all the amenities.

By train

Travel time by train will be about 1 day 3-4 hours. But there are no direct routes. Therefore, you need to time all transfers in order to catch each train, and there are many transfers. You can go through, and; or - through , . In Stockholm, the train to Copenhagen leaves from Stockholm Centralstationen (Stockholm C) and arrives at Copenhagen Central station (København H). The high-speed, direct train X2000 (sometimes referred to simply as X2) makes up to 6 trips per day (from 5 am to 7 pm), covering a distance of more than 650 km. between the two capitals in 5 hours 10 minutes. Travel time can be brightened up with Wi-Fi, lunch, and there is also everything necessary for people with disabilities disabilities.

Next from Copenhagen (Central Station) you should take the train to Hamburg (Hamburg Hauptbahnhof) and then to Berlin (change at central station Hamburg - Hamburg Hauptbahnhof) or to Cologne (change at Hamburg Central Station - Hamburg Hauptbahnhof). Trains run daily except Tuesday and Saturday. According to the time, trains depart throughout the day (from 8 am to 6 pm) every hour. For me, it is more profitable to travel through, because upon arrival you can explore the capital of Germany, and there is something to see there.

Ticket prices

The price for such a route will be significant. With all transfers, the cost will be about 315 euros or more. If you look in advance, it may come out cheaper.
