History of creation

Design

When developing Yak-42, KB Yakovlev designers tried to combine the possibility of operation from unprepared runways, fuel efficiency and ability to maintain high cruising velocities.

To reduce the weight of the aircraft glider, monolithic channels of air intakes made of composite materials were applied. The plane of the wing was performed monolithic and did not have the lines of the connector, weighing the design.

The primary electrical system of Yak-42 has three phases and an operating voltage of 112/208 volts (at a frequency of 400 Hz). Using transformers and rectifiers, the voltage is converted to an alternating current of 36 volts (400 Hz) and permanent 27 volts.

As sources of current, three generators with a capacity of 30 kW are used (installed on the TRD). There is also a 40 kW parking generator and two rechargeable batteries. If the main generators fails, it is possible to feed all consumers of the aircraft from batteries through voltage converters.


The stock of fuel on the Yak-42 aircraft is located in three tanks installed in the centerlane and on the sides of the fuselage. The tanks have the same container and contain 6170 kg of fuel.
