Having read unflattering reviews about "Santa Marina", about Bulgaria, in particular, and about Sozopol, I prepared for the worst and regretted my choice of hotel 100 times, but it was already impossible to change anything. We took our two-year-old son to the sea for the first time, so we prepared very carefully for the trip. What scares the reviews about Bulgaria and Santa Marina? These horror stories are rotaviruses, a disgusting beach, a dirty sea, an inconvenient location. this hotel and rudeness of the apartment owners.
Fortunately, none of this came true!
About everything in order.
Accommodation.
I was afraid that they would settle far from the beach, this did not happen. As I understand it, hotel guests are accommodated only on the first line. We were close to the beach, and to the store and to any point of infrastructure hotel complex. Perhaps next time I would even want to live away from the main entrance, as in the evening the music in the restaurant by the central pool interfered a little. And so walking around Santa Marina is one sheer pleasure in any weather! Gorgeous flowers, trees from different parts of the world, indeed, Santa Marina is a real Botanical Garden on the coast of the black sea. The structure of the complex is such that even if it rains, there are no puddles at all, as the water leaves as quickly as possible.
In principle, if you have not even a very large amount of money, you can live in Santa Marina without leaving the territory for several weeks. The complex is well equipped with infrastructure - in shops you can buy groceries and household items the same as in Sozopol. Everything is more expensive by no more than 10%. The difference in the price of our daily purchases was equivalent to the cost of a taxi ride to Sozopol and back, so we opted for shopping in Santa Marina. By the way, I recommend a shop with Bulgarian cosmetics on rose water. Prices for products are the same as in Stari Grad, but I have never met such charming sellers in the center of Sozopol.
Santa Marina has both beauty salons and spa services. They did not cause me great delight, but the prices for these services do not differ from those in St. Petersburg.
Fortunately, none of us got sick with either rotavirus or other diseases. The whole family swam in the pools, ate in restaurants. Fortunately, we did not use the services of a local doctor.
Beach.
Perfect for a 2-5 year old. No waves, no jellyfish, smooth sunset and clear water. Near the grass and playground. For adults and older children a stone's throw "Golden Fish Beach". It's noisy and fun. Once every half an hour, an express goes to the vaunted Kavatsi beach, we never got there.
For kids.
Santa Marina has great playgrounds, especially just outside the complex and on the second beach. I would even like to call them developing. In rainy weather, they took the child to the nursery.
There are very inexpensive toys in Sozopol. They brought a whole bag of planes and cars.
In the room.
The bed is comfortable, everything you need is in the room. The choice of dishes is really small, but in order to boil pasta and cook porridge, it’s enough. It was a nice bonus for us that by booking a room with a garden view, we got a view of both the beautiful garden and the sea! It is also nice that we were provided with a baby cot in the room for free, and not for 10 euros per day.
Bed linen and towels were changed on time. The maids are friendly, but cleaned in different ways. Sometimes even our shoes were arranged by color, and sometimes after cleaning they cleaned themselves, but I don’t want to pay attention to such trifles.
By the way, on the first night in a new place, the neighbors from the first floor made a terrible noise. For technical reasons, I could not call security, but this did not happen again.
Restaurants.
If something in Santa Marina is not ideal, it is, alas, the restaurants. Great view, live music, great interior spoils the staff. There are not enough waiters, the menu is almost the same everywhere, the kitchen cooks for a very long time. It was a shame for the spoiled husband's birthday, which they decided to celebrate in the central restaurant.
At restaurants there is a nanny for children, but alas, usually the girl sits and watches TV in the corner. I didn't even realize it was a babysitter.
Restaurants in Sozopol are more interesting and democratic, they fight for each client there. In Santa Marina, unfortunately, the staff is spoiled.
Neighborhood.
Sozopol, in my opinion, is a small and boring town. Hello Koktebel early nineties. The Bulgarian mentality is a separate issue, not within the framework of a review of the hotel. "Stari Grad" is not bad, if not for the persistent smells from the garbage dumps on every corner. Everyone praised the local market. Alas, the market is a tent about fruit and a hangar with wine. In Sozopol, a good wide central beach, an excellent playground in the central square and beautiful restaurants with affordable prices and smiling staff.

The town was built in such a way that seventy percent of its territory remained under green spaces and park alleys. Best place for a relaxing holiday just can't be found.
A little about the hotel
Santa Marina Holiday Village is located two kilometers from Sozop. It has direct access to motorways. The complex was founded in 2006, and since then it has been hosting lovers of sea resorts. In 2013 the hotel was completely renovated. Currently, it is a completely modern complex with all the necessary infrastructure.
Santa Marina Holiday Village is located at the following address: Bulgaria, Sozopol, 8130, H.V. Santa Marina, ap 13, 407. In fact, it is a gated hotel complex. It consists of eighty villas and cottages (two- and three-story), which are built along Black Sea coast. Outwardly, the resort resembles an ordinary Bulgarian village on the shores of the Sozopol Bay.
Hotel Features
Santa Marina Holiday Village is a town with its own resort life. On its territory, you can rent not only apartments with several rooms, but also entire attics. The interiors of all apartments fit perfectly into the overall atmosphere of this resort: the walls are painted in sandy tones, natural wooden furniture in an inimitable country style, distinguished by unobtrusive but original accessories.
The layout of the apartments makes them very comfortable for everyday rest. They have kitchen units, washing machines, ironing facilities, and, of course, the Internet.
Rooms
As we already mentioned, Santa Marina Holiday Village is a large complex, and therefore the number of rooms is very diverse. It is not possible to describe all possible options within the framework of the article. Therefore, we will give a description of only some of the most popular apartments to give a general idea of this wonderful place:
- The studio has an area of about forty square meters and is designed to accommodate two guests. It consists of sleeping and living areas, and also has a kitchenette. This type of apartment does not have an extra bed.
- Rooms with a bedroom and a living room have a large area (65 square meters). These apartments can comfortably accommodate two people.
- Rooms with two bedrooms and one living room are designed for a family of four. These apartments have an area of about eighty square meters.
The number of rooms in the hotel is very diverse, everyone can choose the right option for themselves. All apartments in the complex are very spacious and well equipped, creating the perfect atmosphere for a carefree holiday.
Hotel infrastructure
Santa Marina Holiday Village is not quite an ordinary hotel, but rather a whole village with its well-established infrastructure. The complex has five swimming pools, three of which are for adults and two for children. The ponds are cascaded and decorated with various lighting and all kinds of bridges.
The hotel has been welcoming guests since 2006, during which time a playground, places for playing volleyball, basketball, football, table tennis and a tennis court appeared on its territory. Animators every day offer tourists water aerobics classes. For active vacationers, the hotel even has extreme rides. Initially, a spa center was opened in the complex, over the years of its work the range of services has gradually expanded.
It may not be possible for everyone to overcome the large territory of the hotel on foot, and therefore electric cars are launched for tourists on it. It is very convenient, especially for small children and people of age. And the stairs leading to the sea were supplemented with an elevator, which makes the descent much faster and shorter.
The hotel is interesting because it has a huge green area. Around everything is buried in trees and shrubs, a lot of flower beds. Everything is very clean and tidy. It's nice to just walk along the alleys. I would like to note that this vast territory has natural elevation differences, which is associated with the local landscape. Perhaps someone will not like it.
"Santa Marina" is a hotel with parking, although this moment is probably not so important for our compatriots.
Bars and restaurants
On the territory of Santa Marina Holiday Village 4 * there is a cafe "Sky", "Breeze", a bar "Joy" and a pizzeria. In these establishments, guests can have a bite to eat and enjoy excellent cocktails.
In the "Gallery" the chef will prepare the dish you ordered right in front of you. The resort's main restaurant is Apollonia. Every day this institution feeds tourists with delicious and hearty breakfasts, dinners and lunches. However, those vacationers who do not want or cannot eat in public places can buy food in the supermarket on the territory of the complex and cook on their own, since all rooms are equipped with their own kitchenettes. This is especially convenient for those families who come with small children.
Beach
Santa Marina Holiday Village (Sozopol) has its own small sandy beach with paid umbrellas and sunbeds. In addition, there is a fairly large beach area of the neighboring Golden Fish campsite nearby. It has a free zone that guests of neighboring hotels can visit. The entrance to the water along the entire coast is gentle and comfortable, quite suitable for children. The water is clean, but not always calm, after all, this is the Black Sea. The beaches are equipped with changing rooms, cafes, showers.
Entertainment
The Santa Marina Holiday Village has many sports facilities. The animators of the hotel do an excellent job of organizing children's leisure. Young tourists are very satisfied. In addition, the complex has a playground, more precisely, there are several of them. In general, kids will always find something to do.
But as for adult animation, according to tourists, it is not enough. However, there is no need to be bored in Santa Marina Holiday Village 4 * (Sozopol). In the evenings, the resort is transformed beyond recognition, dressed in the lights of bright lanterns. In addition, the complex is located near Sozopol. The city can be reached in twenty minutes on foot, or you can take a ride on transport. The whole road stretches along the sea, you can admire the beautiful scenery. And in Sozopol, tourists are waiting for numerous bars, restaurants, cafes and many entertainments.
Local Attractions
Spending a holiday in a hotel, it is impossible not to visit Sozopol. This wonderful old town is filled with beautiful places, in which you can take unique pictures for memory. It was founded in the sixth century BC by the brave Greek colonists on the rocky coast of the peninsula. In ancient times the city was called Apollonia.
Currently, this place has become a favorite among the Bulgarian bohemia. Numerous musicians, artists, artists are attracted here by a very special atmosphere of the town. There really is something to see here: beautiful old churches, white houses under red tiles, narrow cobbled streets, stone lanes... All this is buried in the greenery of figs and vineyards. And unique sandy beaches and the most beautiful harbor are the pride of Sozopol.
Once a year, the city hosts an arts festival dedicated to the god Apollo. At this time, Sozopol is filled with an artistic atmosphere. The festival lasts ten days. If you happen to be relaxing here at this time, then you should definitely wander around the city. Here you can see theatrical performances, photo exhibitions, artworks. The festival attracts foreign and Bulgarian artists, singers, actors, dancers and ordinary spectators.

From the airport by bus, the road does not take more than forty minutes. Of course, you can order a transfer at the hotel, but it is not particularly needed. It is quite possible to get there on your own.
Tourists are very pleased with the spacious and beautiful numbers hotel complex. The presence of the kitchen is a special delight. This is very convenient, because you can always cook something for a child, and even for adults. There are several shops on the territory of the hotel, so there are no problems with groceries. At any time, you can buy semi-finished products, a couple of minutes - and the dish is ready. Many vacationers buy a tour to the hotel only with breakfast, and for lunch and dinner they eat in a cafe or cook on their own. This option is the most convenient, because often you don’t want to leave the beach and it’s easier to have a bite to eat there. Or, going for a walk in Sozopol, it is not necessary to rush to dinner. In this regard, everything in the complex is well thought out.
Of great interest is the territory of the hotel itself. She is really huge. It takes two or three days to get around it and study it. There is something to see here. "Santa Marina" is kind of like a botanical garden. On its territory, a lot of plants from all over the world have been collected, which coexist perfectly here. There are many beautiful flowers around.
The complex is designed in such a way that rains are not terrible. The water goes down very quickly, even puddles do not remain. The infrastructure is thought out to the smallest detail, you can live there for a couple of weeks without leaving and not even think about anything.
You can walk to Sozopol on foot, or you can take a train ride for two levs, which runs every half an hour. Last flight he does at ten o'clock in the evening. After that, you can only get there by taxi (ten leva). Sozopol is a wonderful city worth walking around and sitting in the atmosphere of local cafes.
Children's resort
The hotel is good place for holidays with children. Here the coast itself seems to be created for kids. In addition, there are many playgrounds on the territory. Not to mention that it is closed and guarded. Recreational activities are organized for children. In general, the animators do a good job. Toddlers love it local beach. They rush along the shore with nets and catch local marine life. This process causes them special delight.
Service: reviews
Rooms are cleaned by maids every day. Towels are also changed daily. The staff is friendly. The quality of cleaning is sometimes lame. Baby cots are provided free of charge.
As for the service in the hotel restaurants, not all guests are satisfied. The staff is slow and poor quality.
If you do not want to eat in a cafe, you can cook on your own. Fruits, vegetables and meat here in stores are much cheaper than in Turkey. A lot of seafood is also sold: flounder, eels, rays, mussels, shrimps.
The hotel organizes trips to local attractions. The old castle is definitely worth a visit. In principle, to all interesting and beautiful places you can easily get there on your own if you don’t want group “races”.

Summing up all of the above, I would like to note that Santa Marina is a wonderful complex for recreation. It can be safely recommended to tourists planning a vacation in Bulgaria. The beach near the hotel is small (there is another one, a little further away, with the usual set of marine entertainment). Between the hotel and the beach - the highway, which can be crossed over the elevated passage. Sunbeds cost a lot - about 3 euros, and therefore almost 3/4 are empty. Bottom - sand, on the beach, which is near the hotel, there are sharp stones. After the slightest storm brings a bunch of algae. They are removed, but without fanaticism - within 2-3 days. So, in addition to free fitness, get ready for free thalassotherapy :)
There is little entertainment in the hotel - three swimming pools and a spa. I did not find the promised bikes. What's stopping them from building a few water slides(despite the fact that the number of children is amazing), I do not understand. There is animation, but rather modest - aqua aerobics and some children's competitions. Children's room is paid. On the outskirts of the complex there is a Kokolandia playground, where children can overcome a very exciting obstacle course.
The food is very so-so. And IMHO this property of Bulgaria in general. Expensive and tasteless. Maybe I'm just unlucky though. The hotel breakfast is probably worth the money, but it would be better if it was more expensive and better. There are almost no fruits (only apples and oranges), there are no dried fruits at all, among vegetables there is no bell pepper (sic!). The little things are also annoying: the oil does not cool, there is no lemonade, the juice is diluted every fourth day, there is no ketchup as a class. The only thing that pleased me was my favorite Twinings tea. The waiters are friendly and clear the dishes quickly.
Unfortunately, Bulgaria is much closer to the Soviet Union than the same Lithuania. Some roads are worth something (even on the only freeway in the country there is no lighting).
In general, everything in the hotel is imbued with the spirit of slovenliness and insanity. The phone number on the hotel website is incorrect. Renting a car through a hotel is not worth it - for the second time they threw me, although I ordered a car three days in advance and reminded me the day before. I ended up being late for my appointment :(
Internet is wired (were stingy to spend an extra 60 bucks on a router at home), the wire is short, the socket is in an extremely inconvenient place, so drag a long twisted pair cable, or even better, a router with wifi :)
There is a laundry, but firstly they need to be convinced to take linen by weight, and not by a list (such a service is usually provided only to apartment owners), and then run to pay for half a kilometer. No to put cars where you can throw coins ...
The rooms (or rather, apartments) are large, the kitchens are well equipped, there are utensils. We had tiles in our apartment, not carpet, so it was uncomfortable without slippers.
Live / rest in Santa Marina, mostly Russian families, for the most part quite adequate.
Excursions. You can go to Sozopol by train (5 minutes, 2 levs, breathing gasoline along the highway) or by taxi (7 levs). I highly recommend a trip to Veliko Tarnovo. We took a car and drove ourselves, but 250 kilometers one way through the mountains is hard. Another impressive excursion to Ropotamo is a walk along the river (herons and turtles) and in jeeps around the hunting grounds (wild boars, roe deer). No one guarantees animals, but we were lucky - we saw herons, turtles, and wild boars. We also went to Nessebar - nice. And the water park is not bad - there are several original slides.
In general, I do not consider the vacation a failure, but I probably will not repeat the experience.
