Solikamsk amazes everyone who sees it for the first time. The breath of hoary antiquity is clearly reflected here. The central one is unique architectural ensemble cities. According to experts, it has no equal not only in the Kama region, but also far beyond its borders. The highlight of the ensemble is the Voivode's House (1688) - the “residence” of the royal governor of the Solikamsk Voivodeship. The ensemble also includes the Trinity Cathedral, built in 1697 with money donated by Tsarina Sophia Alekseevna Romanova. This is the most monumental and picturesque building in the city. Its pyramidal-step composition with elegant decorative decoration made of figured brick dominates the panorama of urban development. It is also notable for the fact that it housed one of the city’s relics – the icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, donated by Ivan the Terrible. Next to it rises the 60-meter spire of the Cathedral Bell Tower, erected on the crest of a steep slope in 1713. Perhaps one of the most interesting churches in the city is Epiphany. In appearance, the abundance of tiles attracts attention. In the interior there is a carved wooden iconostasis with a rare collection of icons of Stroganov writing.
Perm – Velikaya Cherdyn
The next point on the route is a visit to the first capital of the Russian Urals, the oldest city of Russia, Cherdyn. A sightseeing tour of the Cherdyn district, the local history museum and the Museum of the History of Vera will help you look into the secrets of that time.
Cherdyn, the most ancient city The Kama region is not only rich in historical and natural monuments, it has a special civilization. Even before the Russians arrived in the Urals, local tribes traded through Volga Bulgaria with Persia, Byzantium, and Khorezm.
In the XV-XVII centuries, Cherdyn was the administrative, military, craft, trade and religious center of Perm the Great. Then there was even such a concept as “Perm Great Cherdyn”, which was mentioned in official business correspondence and colloquial speech of that time.
The role of Cherdyn in the Russian development of Siberia is great. From here military and construction detachments, artisans, traders and clergy went to the newly built cities of Verkhoturye and Pelym, along with whom Russian culture penetrated into Siberia.
Your acquaintance with Cherdyn will begin from Trinity Hill, where an earthen rampart has been preserved - a remnant of the Kremlin wall - the main attraction of Cherdyn. It offers a historical view of the city center, the Kolva River and the distances beyond the river.
The majestic bell tower of the Resurrection Cathedral (XVIII-XIX centuries) serves as the high-rise dominant of the city panorama. In the architectural appearance of Cherdyn, the early traditions of the Russian north are intertwined with the techniques of the Ural school of architecture of the second half of the 18th century and are reflected in churches, public buildings, merchant shops and houses. The surrounding areas of Cherdyn are also rich in attractions. This is the Annunciation Church (1785) in the village of Pokcha, this is the Holy Trinity Church (1779) in the village of Vilgort, the Vvedenskaya Church (1915) in the village of Kamgort. Along the route, you will visit a unique archaeological site - the Iskor settlement in the village of Iskor, and also visit the famous “narrow street” and “wide street”.
Place of royal imprisonment
Next, the path lies to the northernmost village of the Cherdynsky district - Nyrob. It is believed that the most beautiful architectural ensemble of the Cherdyn region was created in Nyrob. In 1705, St. Nicholas Church was built there, listed as a UNESCO monument.
Nyrob is notorious as the place of imprisonment and martyrdom of M.N. Romanov, the uncle of the first tsar of the Romanov dynasty. The pit of M.N. Romanov is still a shrine of Nyrob. In July 1998, a memorial service was held at the pit of Mikhail Romanov in the presence of descendants of the Romanov dynasty.

The finished salt was delivered along the river to Nizhny Novgorod, Rybinsk, Yaroslavl, they were loaded into barns there, and from there “Permianka” (as Perm salt was called) was distributed throughout Russia and sold abroad.
The 20th century prepared serious trials for Usolye. The city has practically not been preserved in its original form: in 1954, in connection with the formation of the Kama Hydroelectric Power Station, it was moved to Mount Kamen. Only the buildings of the old center, standing on a hill, remained unflooded. They preserve to this day the memory of the “golden age” of the rich Stroganov estate, the former capital of Russian salt production. Having visited the Usolsky region, where the past speaks to us today, you will feel the powerful spiritual charge of old Rus'.
