The Great Ural Ring runs along the route “Ekaterinburg – Nevyansk – Nizhny Tagil – Kachkanar – the border of Europe and Asia – Chusovoy – Solikamsk – Cherdyn – Nyrob – Usolye – Perm.” Travelers have the opportunity to see unique sights with their own eyes.

Nevyansk Leaning Tower

This unique monument industrial architecture, which has no analogues in the history of our country material culture. It was erected in the first half of the 18th century in Nevyansk, the capital of the Demidov mountain kingdom. People have been traveling here for a long time, traveling hundreds and thousands of kilometers to discover its mystery.

Like a magnet, the tower attracted scientists and travelers from different countries. Members of the Russian Academy of Sciences admired her German P,S, Pallas and his compatriot I.G. Gmelin, she was painted by the English artist T.W. Atkinson and the Russian poet V.A. Zhukovsky, D.N. Mamin-Sibiryak, A.N. Tolstoy, V.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko wrote about her... And today, after many years oblivion, the tower again appeared in all its modest splendor, people are coming here from different cities Russian and foreign tourists. Nearby, another pearl and pride of Nevyansk shines with its domes - the newly built Transfiguration Cathedral.

Nizhny Tagil - the stronghold of the Power

Nizhny Tagil is included in the list of “historical cities” of Russia. This is one of the oldest centers of mining - domestic and world metallurgy, a city with a glorious history, the former Demidov fiefdom in XVIII-XIX centuries, the famous "tank city" of the Great Patriotic War, the venue for arms exhibitions and fairs these days. Antiquity and modernity coexist in Nizhny Tagil.

In the city you can take a sightseeing tour with a visit to Fox Mountain, which offers a magnificent view of the city and surrounding area, as well as a visit to observation deck The main quarry of the Vysokogorsky mine, where magnetic iron ore has been mined since 1721.

In the historical and local history museum, the oldest in the Urals (existing since 1840), you can get acquainted with the activities of the Demidov mine owners and the history of the mining business. In the neighborhood of the Nizhny Tagil Metallurgical Plant-Museum, a former Demidov enterprise, there are industrial facilities of the 18th - 20th centuries. At the Museum of Armored Vehicles you can not only see all types of tanks produced in the Urals, but also sit in the cockpit of a modern T-90 tank.

On the border of Europe and Asia

The highlight of the tour is crossing the border between Europe and Asia. At this place there is a tall stone obelisk.

Then the journey continues through the Perm land. And the next point of inspection is the ethnographic museum of the history of the Chusovaya River. In the museum under open air exhibits reproducing Russian antiquity are on display. A lordly village shop, a theater-museum of Russian wooden toys, children's fairground carousels, a tub, a mill, a well were transported here from different parts of the Kama region... Inside the premises you can see items of Russian everyday life, clothing, and tools. The museum is not organized according to the laws of museum affairs. Here you can touch everything, hold it in your hands - pot-bellied two-bucket samovars, spinning wheels, kerosene lamps. The spirit of the primordial, native here lives freely among antiques.

A must-see is a visit to the Museum of Ermak’s Campaign, the only museum in the world of a real-life hero of the Russian Land. This is a real synthesis of arts: an old chapel, an excellent polyptych by Pavel Shardakov, a wonderful soundtrack - an excited story about Ermak's epic. After all, it was from these places that the legendary campaign Ermak along the Chusovaya River to Siberia.

Salt of Russia

Next, tourists get acquainted with the real “salt shaker” of Russia – the city of Solikamsk. The history of this city is, in essence, the history of Russia itself, its emergence as a powerful and vast power. In the 17th-18th centuries, the city bore the loud name “Salt Capital of the Russian State”; 70 percent of Russia’s salt was mined here. Therefore, getting to know the city begins with an excursion to an operating mine for the extraction of potash fertilizers, “to the bottom of the Perm Sea.”

Solikamsk amazes everyone who sees it for the first time. The breath of hoary antiquity is clearly reflected here. The central one is unique architectural ensemble cities. According to experts, it has no equal not only in the Kama region, but also far beyond its borders. The highlight of the ensemble is the Voivode's House (1688) - the “residence” of the royal governor of the Solikamsk Voivodeship. The ensemble also includes the Trinity Cathedral, built in 1697 with money donated by Tsarina Sophia Alekseevna Romanova. This is the most monumental and picturesque building in the city. Its pyramidal-step composition with elegant decorative decoration made of figured brick dominates the panorama of urban development. It is also notable for the fact that it housed one of the city’s relics – the icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, donated by Ivan the Terrible. Next to it rises the 60-meter spire of the Cathedral Bell Tower, erected on the crest of a steep slope in 1713. Perhaps one of the most interesting churches in the city is Epiphany. In appearance, the abundance of tiles attracts attention. In the interior there is a carved wooden iconostasis with a rare collection of icons of Stroganov writing.

Perm – Velikaya Cherdyn

The next point on the route is a visit to the first capital of the Russian Urals, the oldest city of Russia, Cherdyn. A sightseeing tour of the Cherdyn district, the local history museum and the Museum of the History of Vera will help you look into the secrets of that time.

Cherdyn, the most ancient city The Kama region is not only rich in historical and natural monuments, it has a special civilization. Even before the Russians arrived in the Urals, local tribes traded through Volga Bulgaria with Persia, Byzantium, and Khorezm.

In the XV-XVII centuries, Cherdyn was the administrative, military, craft, trade and religious center of Perm the Great. Then there was even such a concept as “Perm Great Cherdyn”, which was mentioned in official business correspondence and colloquial speech of that time.

The role of Cherdyn in the Russian development of Siberia is great. From here military and construction detachments, artisans, traders and clergy went to the newly built cities of Verkhoturye and Pelym, along with whom Russian culture penetrated into Siberia.

Your acquaintance with Cherdyn will begin from Trinity Hill, where an earthen rampart has been preserved - a remnant of the Kremlin wall - the main attraction of Cherdyn. It offers a historical view of the city center, the Kolva River and the distances beyond the river.

The majestic bell tower of the Resurrection Cathedral (XVIII-XIX centuries) serves as the high-rise dominant of the city panorama. In the architectural appearance of Cherdyn, the early traditions of the Russian north are intertwined with the techniques of the Ural school of architecture of the second half of the 18th century and are reflected in churches, public buildings, merchant shops and houses. Cherdyntsy has preserved many relics that are known today throughout the world. This is the Perm animal style, Perm wooden gods and unique icons.

The surrounding areas of Cherdyn are also rich in attractions. You will follow the ancient Pechora tract, along which there are settlements, founded even before the annexation of the Cherdyn region to the Russian state. Many monuments have been preserved here - witnesses of the most striking events of our history. This is the Annunciation Church (1785) in the village of Pokcha, this is the Holy Trinity Church (1779) in the village of Vilgort, the Vvedenskaya Church (1915) in the village of Kamgort. Along the route, you will visit a unique archaeological site - the Iskor settlement in the village of Iskor, and also visit the famous “narrow street” and “wide street”.

Place of royal imprisonment

Next, the path lies to the northernmost village of the Cherdynsky district - Nyrob. It is believed that the most beautiful architectural ensemble of the Cherdyn region was created in Nyrob. In 1705, St. Nicholas Church was built there, listed as a UNESCO monument.

Nyrob is notorious as the place of imprisonment and martyrdom of M.N. Romanov, the uncle of the first tsar of the Romanov dynasty. The pit of M.N. Romanov is still a shrine of Nyrob. In July 1998, a memorial service was held at the pit of Mikhail Romanov in the presence of descendants of the Romanov dynasty.

The Nikolsky spring is considered another holy place among the region’s residents. Its water has an amazing taste. Locals This is due to the fact that for a long time the revealed icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was buried in it.

The spiritual charge of old Rus'

The final point of inspection is old City Perm region - Usolye. Having retained its face, it is a living part of the past, reminiscent of itself with the domes of churches, stone merchant buildings, and unusual names. Sometimes it seems: the doors of an ancient mansion are about to open, and the all-powerful owner of the Usolsky region, Grigory Stroganov, will appear on the threshold...

The history of the city itself begins in 1606, when Nikita Grigorievich Stroganov started a new salt mine here, which was called New Usolye. The brines of Novy Usolye were highly concentrated. The finished salt was delivered along the river to Nizhny Novgorod, Rybinsk, Yaroslavl, they were loaded into barns there, and from there “Permianka” (as Perm salt was called) was distributed throughout Russia and sold abroad.

The 20th century prepared serious trials for Usolye. The city has practically not been preserved in its original form: in 1954, in connection with the formation of the Kama Hydroelectric Power Station, it was moved to Mount Kamen. Only the buildings of the old center, standing on a hill, remained unflooded. They preserve to this day the memory of the “golden age” of the rich Stroganov estate, the former capital of Russian salt production. Having visited the Usolsky region, where the past speaks to us today, you will feel the powerful spiritual charge of old Rus'.

Visiting the cities of the Urals evokes an extraordinary feeling - a feeling of one’s own involvement in the events that have happened and are happening. At first glance, single-minded and at the same time so different from each other, they have their own special destiny, their own page in the annals of Russian history. Cherdyn, Solikamsk, Usolye are not only our memory, but also the wonderful reality of today. The strict and solemn silhouettes of temples, cozy quiet streets of residential areas, the majestic rustle of centuries-old trees, slowing down the count of years, immerse us in an atmosphere of peace, tranquility and harmony.
