The list shows the electric trains, ever operated on the Soviet, and later the Russian railways of the normal rut, that is, with a width of 1524/1520 mm. The list also includes experimental electric trains that have been tested, but for a number of reasons and not commissioned.

The first electric trains in the Russian Empire were operated on narrow-chain (1000 mm) driveways of the city of Lodz (now located on the territory of Poland), where Lodz-Egerzhskoe (10.5 km) and Lodz-Pibianic (15 km) directions were served. Motor (No. 1-16) and trailed (No. 101-120) Electrovagons were built in 1900 by the Russian-Baltic Carriage Plant. The voltage in the contact network was 550 V. The first electric train in the territory of the current Russia was a dual battery carrier, built in 1910 by the Bryansk Machine-Building Plant. The electric train made several experienced trips on the St. Petersburg-Tsarskoye Selo line, during which the imperfection of its batteries was revealed.
The first projects of electrification of suburban areas of railways were also first offered in the Russian Empire. So in 1913, the Ministry of Railways considered the project of electrification of the direction Moscow - Rublevo - Pavlovskaya Sloboda - Voskresensk. Electrification projects of the Moscow-Ramenskoye site (Moscow-Kazanskaya g.), Building Moskaya Railway Moscow - Sergiev Posad, the facilities of the Crimean Electric Road, the electrification of the Surask Pass, and so on, only about 60 projects. In connection with the initiating military events, work on these projects was suspended. The first electric train on Soviet railways appeared in 1920. They became the rechargeable electric train system I. I. Makhonin, which was three re-equipped automotors of the construction of the Mytishchi plant (diesel engines and generators were removed) with three special tenders, on which batteries were located. First electrified suburban direction In the USSR, a plot of Baku - Sabunchchi - Surahani, where on July 7, 1926, the regular movement of electric trains began. On the territory of the current Russia, the first test movement of suburban electric trains was open on August 3, 1929 at the Moscow-Mytishchi section, and since October 1, their regular operation began.

In the lists of the electric train are divided by the nature of the current: constant and variable, as well as multi-system. A separate list includes rechargeable electric trains. In the lists, it is worth noting the column composition in which M and n mean, respectively, motor and trailed wagons, and clarifying indices r and n - head (i.e., an equipped control cab) and intermediate, refinement (L) means that the electric locomotive section is used as a carrot . In brackets concluded the composite of electrical installations. For example, recording 2; (mg + PP) means that the electric train consists of two electrical components, each of which consists of one motor head and one trailed intermediate electrosals. You can also note the number of quantities (quantity), which indicates the number of electrical components or motor cars indicated, as the accounting of motor-wagon trains is carried out on them. However, the number of full-fledged trains issued in brackets is also indicated, that is, without taking into account additional electrical installations. It is worth noting that on this column it is impossible to determine the general Park of Soviet and Russian electric trains, as accounting in the table is maintained even for the series obtained by reworking other electric trains.
For completeness of information, all modifications are shown in the lists, and the ER2 and ER9E electric trains are also taken into account and change the head cars. The electric train on the list is ordered by year of release, and trophy and reparation electric trains - in the year of hitting the Soviet railways.
