Las Americas in Tenerife Spain. At the beginning of December I visited the beautiful island of Tenerife, with its attractions

When going on vacation to Tenerife, you first of all choose the most suitable resort for yourself, and if your choice falls on the southern part of the island, rest assured that your desired vacation will not be overshadowed by any unforeseen incidents or disappointment. South Tenerife is a real paradise, and Las Americas- its integral part. If you want to know all the most interesting things about this bright, dynamic and colorful resort, we are happy to start our story.

Number one resort in Tenerife

The famous southern resort of Tenerife called Playa de Las Americas comfortably located between two other resort towns - and. It will be difficult for you to determine the line between them, since in the endless string of hotels there have been no actual boundaries for a long time. Las Americas is especially proud of its well-appointed, comfortable and clean beaches, equipped with breakwaters that reliably protect the shore from the raging ocean and create special comfort for those who like to swim and sunbathe.

Deserted coast turned into paradise

It’s hard to imagine, but half a century ago there was a completely deserted area and a tiny fishing settlement in this place, but the coast itself and the unique climatic conditions seemed so ideal that it was chosen for the implementation of a grandiose project to build a large tourist center. So, in the 70s, the construction of fashionable hotels and entertainment centers, shops and restaurants, bars and cafes, casinos and spas began here. To make the beaches look more attractive, they began to be covered with white sand, which was brought from the African desert, gradually turning the coast into a favorite place for numerous tourists.

A big resort

Convenient location of the resort - only 75 km to the capital Tenerife, 15 km to south airport Tenerife Sur - together with its developed infrastructure, gives visitors the most pleasant experience and provides unforgettable impressions for a long time. Many people mistakenly call the entire part of the coast Las Americas, including Costa Adeje, and sometimes Los Cristianos. Don't confuse them, otherwise you may get lost. Looking at the map, you can see that Las Americas has administrative borders with Los Cristianos at the small mountain Chaofita (Montaña Chatofita) in the southern part, and the northern border with Costa Adeje is the channel bed along the Barranco del Rey gorge del Rey) next to Troy Beach.

This is a hot place where tourists from all the surrounding areas gather at night, so that after a hefty dose of strong drinks, they can dance and make noise until exhaustion in the company of similar lovers of entertainment venues. If you like to fall asleep early and without noise outside your windows, then you should choose a hotel away from this place.

As you can see, Playa de Las Americas is an absolutely amazing place that can give every visitor exactly the experience that he expects. Rest assured, you will not be bored, whether you are a relaxed family man vacationing here with children and preferring exclusively a beach holiday, or a regular at fun night events, a sports fan or a fan of the art of dance and music.

Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean have rightfully earned the status of an elite vacation among tourists who prefer the best of the large seven inhabited islands - Tenerife. For two decades now Playa de Las Americas holds the palm among Tenerife resorts.

History of the resort

In the early 70s, the north of the island could no longer cope with the increasing number of tourists from year to year, who were attracted by the island’s beautiful lush vegetation, healing sea air and evening walks along the wide promenade.

The government of Tenerife very quickly saw that tourism brought income to the city municipality, but the north of the island, with its choppy ocean, cloudiness and unpredictable precipitation, did not allow travelers to be received year-round.

Their gaze turned to the south, where mountain range It did not miss the cold trade winds and it rained only a few times a year. At that time, the south of Tenerife was a semi-desert with rare bushes of Canarian milkweed, which learned to exist without moisture among the stones, and several small settlements of fishermen.

The government faced a difficult task: to build hotels of various categories and create good infrastructure. Spanish and foreign investors were attracted to implement the project of transforming an abandoned strip of coast into a modern resort. This was facilitated by the appearance of an international airport 20 km from the future city, which was inaugurated in 1978 by Queen Sofia herself. For several years the airport bore the name of the Spanish Queen, until it was renamed Tenerife International Airport – South.

A city with numerous hotels, bars, restaurants, entertainment centers was built specifically for vacationers in just two decades and was named Playa de las Americas, which means “beach of America” in Spanish. Thus, the Spaniards emphasized the great feat of Columbus and his team, who discovered America. As a rule, local residents do not live in this city, but only come to work from all over the island.

Today resort town stretches along the coast for 6 km and is visited by millions of tourists from Europe. Only 3% of the total number of tourists at the height of the season are residents of Russia. But many hotels, shopping centers and entertainment venues have recently hired Russian-speaking employees. It has also become the norm in many restaurants and bars to bring menus to customers in Russian.

“Island of Volcanoes” - this name was assigned to the island, on the territory of which in the 18th century there were a series of destructive eruptions that destroyed ¼ of the surface of the entire island.

Territorial division

In the eastern part, the busiest and most crowded with many clubs and discos, young people like to spend their holidays.

On the territories of both zones there are 7 artificial beaches with imported fine sand of gray shades. All beaches are protected from high waves Atlantic Ocean stone piers. For many tourists, stone barriers become convenient place For fishing.

On the shore you can always rent umbrellas, sun loungers, and also ride on jet skis, banana boats, “tablets”, catamarans, speedboats and snow-white yachts. But in addition to the standard beach service, loud sellers are briskly selling fruit on the beach and Chinese masseuses are offering their services.

Despite the fact that Playa de las Americas is considered a vacation spot for the elite public, tourists who choose economy class tours feel confident here.

Playa de las Americas – main resort Tenerife, or to be more precise, just one of its parts. Playa de las Americas is located to the right of the riverbed that runs near the Hesperia Troya hotel. This is the conventional border separating two resort areas: Playa de las Americas. To accurately determine where Las Americas is and where Costa Adeje is, you need to stand with your back to the ocean and then Costa Adeje will be on your left hand, and de las Americas on your right.

In most guidebooks, the resort of Playa de las Americas is considered to be a six-kilometer zone running along the south of the island.

Costa Adeje, located next to Las Americas, is a calm place suitable for a relaxed family holiday. And its neighbor is a completely different matter: a lively, noisy and party place. This is especially felt when the clock hands move closer to midnight. On Costa Adeje it’s lights out after ten o’clock in the evening, and in neighboring Las Americas people are just getting ready for the evening promenade.
Playa de las Americas can be called a mediocre resort, with affordable and affordable prices for hotels and apartments. There are only three 5-star hotels on the resort territory, and even then, there is only one real five of them - the Europe Villa Cortez hotel.

A little history of Las Americas

An interesting fact is that about 40 years ago this thriving resort was a pitiful sight, more like an abandoned wasteland stretching along the coast. But the climate here is simply magnificent, as if created for an ideal resort: moderately sunny, the ocean is calm, and rain is rare. Unlike the northern – inhabited part of the island – the main advantage of the south is reliable protection from inclement weather, thanks to the powerful wall of the mountains.

Investors immediately realized that this part of the island of Tenerife would make an excellent, and therefore profitable, resort. Built in a short time international Airport, they made sandy beaches, and then numerous hotels, as if they themselves began to multiply in different parts of Playa de las Americas.

Playa de las Americas is loved by tourists from Russia and Europe. If you are planning to relax at this resort, you don’t have to worry about your knowledge of English or Spanish. Restaurant owners have long translated their entire menu into Russian. Not to mention the numerous travel agencies, where the chances of meeting a Russian-speaking guide are one hundred percent.

If Russian-speaking tourists began to appear at the resort relatively recently, the British and Germans have chosen Las Americas for a long time. German and English speech is everywhere, with small splashes of the great and mighty. The total number of our tourists during the peak season usually does not exceed 5%.

At first glance, Las Americas is no different from similar seaside resorts in Tenerife. All the same numerous tourist shops, shops, restaurants and cafes, endless beaches and dozens of hotels. In other words, everything is here and you can find both pros and cons in it. Excellent infrastructure is certainly a plus, but some picky people may regard the lack of individuality as a clear minus.

Let's go a little east

East of Las Americas there is another popular resort – . Quieter places Probably hard to find anywhere. There is no clear boundary between the two resorts, so when walking around Las Americas it is difficult to understand that you have found yourself in its eastern neighbor. Except that there will be many times fewer drunken Englishmen.

Marketers have long ago calculated and named everything East Coast resort Playa de las Americas - "Golden Mile". Apparently, they decided that gold attracts gold and this name will attract buyers of expensive local real estate. In this area is the most prestigious street of the resort - Avenida de las Americas. There are a large number of shops, restaurants and other establishments on it. Among them there are quite decent places, for example, a luxurious concert venue and a fountain. It is in this area that the largest concentration of people occurs and, despite the fact that geographically Avenida de las Americas is located on the edge of the resort, this is the very center.

A cultural holiday in a tourist style means browsing the assortment of numerous shops, tasting local cuisine and, of course, buying souvenirs. You won't find better shopping anywhere in Tenerife. This shopping center is not at all difficult to find; it is never overgrown with a folk trail.

Discos and bars

And what kind of holiday is this without a noisy disco? The British, Germans and a few locals know that the best disco is located only in the area of Veronikas Street. Those who count on relaxing holiday, should avoid this place, because this street also has a second name: “mean street.” Bars, discos and a discordant chorus of tipsy Englishmen - all this awaits you in the evening. But during the day the picture changes dramatically, and the street turns into a calm, not at all seedy street. But as soon as you stay in the area a little longer, before your eyes the moderate life of Veronicas turns into a noisy booth. Locals, most likely, should be deaf or hard of hearing, because it is simply impossible to live, much less sleep, in the evening noise. Although, as the old-timers say, it’s still nothing now, but in the dashing 90s, complete madness was happening here. Now everything is different: most establishments had to be closed, and police squads are increasingly on duty on the streets. Just a fireman.

And also, if you encounter a group of noisy and drunken Englishmen on your way, do not rush to run across the street, call the police, or take a fighting stance. A drunk Russian and a drunk Englishman are different images. As a rule, drunken English guys and girls are friendly, a little sloppy and affable people. The most they will do to you is offer you to join their cheerful company and have a glass or two of beer.

Cuisine of Playa de las Americas

When you enter one of the restaurants on Veronikas Street, you will be pleasantly surprised by the cozy atmosphere, affordable prices and simple cuisine. And at this moment, you must clearly understand that you are not on, but only on a family, calm Spanish resort the island of Tenerife, without all sorts of frills.

There will be no problems with having a delicious meal at the resort of Playa de las Americas. All the most popular cuisines of the world are presented here: Italian, Japanese, Chinese, French and even Argentinean. But in fact, there is no strict gradation; almost all establishments can be regarded as international. There are French fries, steaks, and sushi. If you consider yourself a picky gourmet, then there are a couple here for you too. interesting places. True, the price tag will creep up a little. Unfortunately, you will never be able to taste local cuisine. There is no Canarian food in the tourist area of Playa de las Americas at all.

If suddenly at three o'clock in the morning you wake up from hunger and want to have a snack, you won't succeed. At night it is customary to sleep here and certainly not eat. Of course, there is a chance to find some fast food late at night and kill the worm with pizza, hamburger or shawarma.

How do you relax in Las Americas?

Thousands of tourists visiting Costa Adeje and Playa de las Americas resort to a very traditional pastime. During the day, they swim, sunbathe, go on water rides, visit various spa salons and buy tourist supplies. If you are tired of the salty sea, you can use the services of one of two water parks.

And how great it is after a hard working day of tourism to find yourself on the evening embankment, sit down at one of the tables cozy cafe and with a nice glass of cold beer envy yourself once again. And then, while admiring the sunset, enjoy one of the famous hits of the past, performed by local Elvis Presley, Cliff Richard or Tom Jones. Well, if sentiments are not for you, then you are welcome to the casino located in the Gran Tenerife hotel.

Playa de las Americas – popular tourist resort, located on southwest coast Tenerife islands. The resort was built in the 1960s and stretches west of Costa Adeje. The sun is almost all year round and many sandy beaches(sand was brought specially from Africa) attracts thousands of tourists here. In addition, vacationers have access to duty-free shops, restaurants with excellent seafood dishes, a water park and prestigious resort Los Cristianos is next door.

First of all, Playa de las Americas is known for its sandy beaches - there are six of them in the city, each offering a lot of opportunities for activities aquatic species sports including jet skiing and scuba diving. The main beach has calm waters, perfect for families with children, while Playa de Guincho has favorite place fans of surfing and windsurfing. In addition, Playa de las Americas is considered the party capital of Tenerife: cocktails, clubs and karaoke are commonplace. There are also a couple of casinos here. Centers nightlife located in the areas of Veronicas, Starko and Patch - sophisticated connoisseurs will find here modern nightclubs, cabarets, concert venues, etc.

Half an hour's drive from Playa de las Americas is the territory national park Teide, with its volcano of the same name, one of the largest in the world, is the main attraction of the island of Tenerife. You can climb to the top of the volcano (3718 m) along specially equipped trails or along cable car. In any case, the views from the top will not leave anyone indifferent!

Definitely worth a visit Central Park Arona, opened in 2004 and spread over an area of 42 thousand square meters, attracts several public gardens, children's playgrounds and picnic areas. On its territory you can also see a collection of tropical and Canarian plants, including 40 species of palms, a dragon tree and several baobabs.

Also in Playa de las Americas you can find an excellent golf course (in the very center of the resort) or go on one of the many sea excursions - watch dolphins and whales, take a trip on a pirate ship or dive on sea bottom on a yellow submarine.

Impressions from a holiday in January

Holidays at the resort of Playa de Las Americas in January are quite comfortable. The air temperature is around 20-25 degrees, sunny. Many people on the beaches not only sunbathe, but also swim, although, in my opinion, the water is cold at this time of year. In winter it is very pleasant to travel around the island, although in the center of Tenerife, in the area of the Teida volcano, roads may be blocked at this time of year due to snow and ice. Also in winter there is a high probability of strong winds or prolonged rain.

Why is it better to vacation in May?

Several years ago we vacationed in Las Americas in May, and it seemed to me that May was preferable for vacation than January. Firstly, in May the ocean is already warmer and the air temperature is higher, which allows you to spend time on the beach with great pleasure. Secondly, visiting water parks and water attractions also takes place in more comfortable conditions. I think that September and October should also be good months to visit the resort, since at this time of year it becomes fewer vacationers, but good warm weather remains.

Vacation with children

Many parents with children fly to Tenerife in winter or early spring, when they want warmth and sun, and this is the right choice. Firstly, this is Europe, with appropriate service, food, shops, etc. There is no need to bring baby food, etc. with you. - You can buy everything here. Secondly, the flight from Moscow lasts only 7 hours, which is much less than in southeast Asia or at Caribbean Islands. When traveling to the Canary Islands, you do not need to have special vaccinations and you don’t have to be afraid of exotic infections. Tenerife has a huge hotel base for every taste and budget, many apartments and aparthotels, which makes it easier to solve everyday problems that arise when vacationing with children. The developed infrastructure of the Playa de Las Americas resort makes it possible to visit with children interesting parks entertainment and water parks.

Family holiday

Tenerife, to be honest, is mainly intended for family holidays; young people will find it a bit boring here. But married couples with or without children will feel comfortable here. Since often the main purpose of a trip to Las Americas is to relax on the beach, many families will already have enough wide sandy beaches and modern comfortable hotels to feel happy. Another point that vacationers like is the gastronomic component of their vacation. It's very tasty here. And for those families who cannot sit still, there is an opportunity to travel safely. Men can go fishing.

Holidays for the elderly

There are a lot of older Europeans in Playa de Las Americas. They are attracted by the fairly mild climate, the absence of sweltering heat, as well as many amenities that make life easier for older people. For example, all beaches in Las Americas are equipped with wheelchair ramps. In addition, the resort is quite calm, there is no large quantity noisy youth.

What to take with you on vacation?

On vacation, it is best to take casual clothes, comfortable shoes for traveling and hiking, swimsuits and swimming trunks, sunscreen. Bring a light windbreaker with you in case of strong winds.

Where is the best place to stay?

Playa de Las Americas is a fairly respectable resort, so there are many 4-5 star hotels here. As a rule, they are located directly on the beach or very close to it. It often happens that the hotel is located on the shore, but not on the beach, so if you do not want to climb a mountain or walk 5-10 minutes to the nearest beach, carefully study this issue. The part of the city located closer to Playa de Los Cristianos is more developed in terms of entertainment and infrastructure, although, in principle, the distances here are not very large. Many families choose apartments, for example, Parque Santiago or Parque La Paz. Sol Tenerife is a very good budget hotel. As for expensive hotels, they usually fully correspond to the declared category, and you can choose any of them based on personal preferences or location.

What to do at the resort?

In addition to a beach holiday, Tenerife has many opportunities for entertainment. In close proximity to the resort there is one of the largest water parks in Europe - Siam Park, as well as the older one - Aqualand. There are also several animal and plant parks - Monkey Park, Eagle Park Jungl Park, Cactus Park. In the evening you can visit the concert hall "Piamida Arona", which hosts musical theatrical performances, very bright and dynamic. In some restaurants and clubs you can watch flamenco dancing. Lovers sea trips can go on a yacht or catamaran, or go surfing. Those who have the time and desire for longer trips can visit the island's signature volcano, Teida, or famous park parrots Loro Park.

The beaches in Las Americas are bays separated by breakwaters with gray sand. The sand is usually quite coarse, with small pebbles sometimes found. In general, not for everyone. The water, even in summer, is much cooler than in the Mediterranean Sea. There is a promenade along the beach, where there are numerous restaurants, bars and cafes. As a rule, there is a toilet on the beach. Part of the beach is occupied by sun loungers and umbrellas at a cost of 10-15 euros per set per day. Therefore, most vacationers use a portable umbrella and mats.

The bulk of the shops in Playa de Las Americas are concentrated in the area of the Pyramid of Arona concert hall and next to the Bahia del Duque hotel. Prices for everything are resort prices, designed for tourists, i.e. tall. Therefore, if you want shopping to be more intelligent and interesting, then you should go to the capital of the island, Santa Cruz de Tenerife. There are several here shopping centers, as well as the El Corte Ingles department store.

Entertainment

In this section I would like to give prices for some popular entertainment in Las Americas. So, Siam Park water park. Price entrance ticket for an adult - 34 euros, for a child - 23 euros. The prices are the same in Loro Parque. If you buy a double ticket to visit these two parks, you will save 10 euros. Entrance to Jungle park costs 24 euros for adults and 17 for children. Climbing the funicular to the Teida volcano - 26 and 13 euros, respectively.

Pros of a holiday in Playa de Las Americas

The main advantage of the Playa de Las Americas resort is that you can come here at any time of the year and have a wonderful rest. It has all the necessary tourist infrastructure, a pleasant atmosphere, and a variety of entertainment. I like that the resort is calm and safe, the ocean is clean, and there is a lot of variety of entertainment at reasonable prices. And accommodation on the island is inexpensive.

Disadvantages of holidays in Playa de Las Americas

The disadvantages of a holiday in Playa de Las Americas include a 7 hour flight and often high prices for air tickets. Besides that, it's easy resort place, so if you don’t get out of it, then you won’t see anything educational, authentic and typically Canarian.

Is it worth visiting Playa de Las Americas?

Of course, this is a place worth visiting. Firstly, it is the most developed and interesting island Canary archipelago. European service here good climate and an interesting excursion program. As an alternative to Playa de Las Americas, you can consider the island of Gran Canaria. The resort has a lot of Russian-speaking staff, which makes it easier for tourists who do not speak foreign languages.
