Corfu island beaches where it is better to stay. Choosing a resort in Corfu

Early this morning we went to see the beaches of Corfu.
We drove a rented car to Corfu
Let's go from where we live now - Villa Artemis and go around Corfu counterclockwise.
That is, we are going north along the eastern (north-eastern) coast of Corfu.
I was lazy - having passed from Nissaki before Paleokastritsa- turned home.

The sun shines directly into the camera lens and if I wanted to photograph something, the image would be overexposed.
That’s why I don’t stop: I won’t be able to capture the bays of the northeast that come my way, and there’s nowhere to stop—the roads to Corfu are narrow.

Only once did we go off the road to the beach, my wife read that the beach was famous - Agni(Agni).
I don’t know why it’s famous in tourist guides, but the place is worse than ours Kaminaki and didn’t even bother taking out the camera – just a bay with boats and yachts.
The parking lot is far from the beach.
I didn't want to swim here.

The second beach on our way to the northern coast of Corfu is the beach Kogevina(Kogevina)
This beach is better than Agni.
But it is also inferior to ours.
But there is parking, the entrance is like ours - pebbles.
The water is clear, but there is no highlight.

If you drive a little further along the road, behind the cape in a quiet bay there is a shrimp farm.
At first I assumed that oysters are grown here, but then I looked at the shape of the cages in the water - for oysters they are square, like in the photo

Beaches in the north of Corfu

We quietly move to north coast Corfu.
You can feel the difference: the beaches here are like the shores of some estuary or swamp.
The shore is dirty in color and resembles a mixture of clay and earthen sand.

The depth is ankle-deep for tens of meters.
Sand sticks to your feet and is difficult to wash off.
The tactile impressions from contact are unpleasant.

I cross out the beaches in the north of Corfu from the places on the island that are pleasing to the eye.
I don’t like places where hotels, package tourists, and souvenir shops gather.
These are the beaches: Kalamaki(Kalamaki) and Seki(Seki)

Beaches Sidari(Sidari) - muddy water, dirty sand, stinks of rot, a lot of sun loungers and hotels.
The depth of the sea can be seen in the photo.
Right Love Channel(Canal d'Amur).

Something like something pulled out of thin air: a shallow ravine cut through thicker fossilized clay.
They say that if you swim along this canal, all the women will be yours.

It’s true - I would really like this, but I had absolutely no desire to swim in this puddle.
This attraction can be crossed out from your plans for visiting places in Corfu.

Cape Drastis

Next stop: Cape Drastis- the northern point of the island of Corfu.
Don’t park your car where everyone else is doing it - drive further along the country road, why walk in the heat?
We didn’t go to the cape itself - I let it go there: I took a photo and video without entrance ticket at 10 euros.
The place is beautiful - I recommend it.

Further along the road we stopped at the beach Loggas(Loggas)
This is not a swimming beach, although you can go down.
Better go to a bar Panorama and take a selfie on the glass canopy over the abyss.
To your right there will be a steep bank of petrified clay.
You can see this and take a photo - see the map above.

Beaches in West Corfu

We are already driving along the western coast of Corfu and after Arila beach we stop at the beach further south Agio Georgios Pagon.
Here we finally took a swim.
The water is clean, but icy. This is a feature of Corfu - on the west coast the water is much colder than on the east - there are cold currents.
On the shore of the beach there is coarse yellow sand, the entrance to the sea is deep, small pebbles at the bottom.

3 beaches were promised in secluded bays.
In reality it’s like this: there are probably beaches there, but you have to leave your car somewhere in a village on a mountain and walk about 20 minutes to get to these beaches.

All around there are signs on the asphalt No parking, no public parking was found.
Besides, trampling on foot under scorching sun- this is not our method.
I didn’t send the drone there either. No photo.
Let's go further south - to Paleokastritsa

Beaches of Paleokastritsa

Paleokastritsa is a very beautiful place - in this place the coast is gnawed by numerous coves, some of which are privatized by hotels or bars.
There are several public beaches in Paleokastritsa - the port can serve as a landmark.
There is ample public parking. But there are a lot of people. After our cozy and small beach in the northeast, it’s uncomfortable here.

Organized tourists are brought to one of the public beaches of Paleokastritsa by bus - like an excursion. Perhaps someone will understand my horror at this. Nevertheless, people enjoy the sea: they swim, take selfies and photo shoots with mermaids

Conclusions about best place It’s too early to make a holiday in Corfu - we have one more day here before the trip to Albania, but I correctly guessed the current place, which I advise you to do.
Northeast Corfu from the beach Barbati in the south to Kalami in the north of the Corfu Riviera.

Video from our beach

Beaches of the west coast south of Paleokastritsa

We had time to see several beaches south of Paleokastritsa:
Ermones Beach shared by two taverns and a hotel.
The beach is small and quite cozy.

There are small pebbles on the shore, the entrance to the water is good and comfortable.
The water is clear, there are no waves. The best time to swim here is in the evening when the water is warm. The bottom is hard sand.

If you move to the right side of the beach, then further along the shore there is a narrow path and you can park your car and walk to the bay with a secret beach.
There are nudists.

Myrtiotissa Beach

This is very beautiful beach with very difficult parking.
If you're lucky, you'll find a place to park your car below.
Otherwise, you will have to smoke tires on a steep climb and park at a tavern or on the side of the road, and then walk up and down on foot.

The beach is small and consists of several islands of yellow sand.
There are no waves. Entering the water is very comfortable.
The water is clear as a tear. The place was chosen by nudists, but they cluster around the edges and do not interfere with life.

Glyfada Beach
I don't like him in the picture, so I took a photo of him from above.
Nothing special and a lot of people.

Pelekas Beach
This is terrible.
Look at the photo:

That's all. All beaches are marked on the map - you can use it for navigation.

Kaiser's throne in the village of Pelekas in Corfu

The famous "Kaiser's Throne" is located on the top of a cliff above the village of Pelekas, a picturesque Corfiot mountain village. The Kaiser's Throne cannot be reached by bus, so you can get there either by rented car or on foot from the village of Pelekas (about 800 meters uphill). The resorts closest to the village of Pelekas are the famous sandy beaches of Glyfada, Agios Gordis, as well as the incredibly beautiful Paleokastritsa, Ermones, Llapades, famous for their breathtaking rocky landscapes and bays with sea water the color of bright turquoise.

"The Kaiser's Throne" is historical monument, dating back to the era of Kaiser Wilhelm II. The Kaiser bought the Achilleion Palace, built by Elizabeth of Austria in 1904, and since then regularly visited Corfu. He installed electricity in the palace, brought the first car and telegraph device to the island in the history of Corfu. The Kaiser was also a big fan of hiking, which is why he chose the top of a cliff overlooking the village of Pelekas, which offers a breathtaking panoramic view of almost the entire island of Corfu, the shores of Albania and mainland Epirus. The Kaiser's "gazebo" is built of metal and stone; a stone staircase leads to the platform with binoculars. Next to the "Kaiser's Throne" there is a small hotel and cafeteria, where in the shade of the trees you can drink a cold cocktail or have a snack while enjoying the beautiful view and clean mountain air. Visiting the observation deck is free.

Today, Pelekas is also a favorite place for romantics and lovers who come to admire the sunset from the top of the mountains.

Pelekas village

Pelekas is a picturesque traditional Corfiot village located 13 kilometers from Corfu town, in the center of the island, close to the central west coast Corfu, at an altitude of 270 meters above sea level. Pelekas means crane in Greek. Visitors to this cozy village can fully enjoy the national flavor - narrow streets, small churches, virgin nature, little touched by civilization, silence and beautiful panoramic views of the mountain slopes - will not leave you indifferent. On a cliff overlooking the village is Observation deck"The Kaiser's Throne"

Below the village of Pelekas, 2 km away, there is one of the most beautiful sandy beaches Corfu Islands - Kondoyalos (which means short bay). The beach is very similar to the famous Glyfada beach located next door.
In the village of Pelekas there are many traditional taverns where you can taste national Greek and Corfiot cuisine, as well as several tourist shops.

Holidays in Corfu

For its magnificent natural scenery and the beautiful, clear azure Ionian Sea, this island is called Emerald paradise. A holiday here is actually like being in paradise - a sea of fresh exotic fruits, a beautiful azure sea, a wonderful climate, walks in the mountains, places filled with spiritual mood - how could there be anything better!

Let's take a look at the highlights of your holiday in Corfu point by point. And then we’ll go to a local village that can tell a very picturesque story about the island of Corfu.

  • Local nature is the subject of glorification not only by numerous travel agencies, but also by myths Ancient Greece. After all, it was Corfu that was chosen by the famous thieves of the Golden Fleece, Jason and Medea, in order to arrange their wedding here. Of course, such a heavenly place could not be better suited for holding such a beautiful and important event. In Corfu you can find magnificent orange and lemon orchards, cypress and olive groves, as well as vineyards, fig trees and blackberry thickets. All this vegetation pleases the eye and can also please the stomach. After all, there are many wild plantings here, which present visitors with their ripe, juicy and tasty fruits during the harvest season. A little further along the coastline you can often find tourists picking blackberries. To some Russians, this may seem like a real fairy tale. Especially those who live in the northern cities of our state. Often these trees grow on local coastal cliffs, delighting beachgoers with their lush green crowns. A walk along these mountain paths can turn into a very pleasant and healthy promenade.
  • In addition, Corfu attracts with its beautiful underwater world. Bottom Ionian Sea very beautiful - here you can find very colorful and vibrant plants and unusual marine life. All of them are also colorful and positive. And at the same time they swim quite close to the shore. Here you can find schools of fish, crabs, octopuses, starfish and other inhabitants of the underwater world here and there. We recommend renting a speedboat or boat - this can often be done on local beaches. You can even rent a boat for the whole day. This way you can get a great look at the bizarre marine life and swim to nearby bays, bays and wild beaches. There are so many interesting and beautiful things in them.
  • All these places are another subject of admiration for visiting vacationers. In the bays and coves of Corfu you can find very beautiful natural phenomena, such as sea caves and grottoes, and just very beautiful views to the beaches. Wild places are always distinguished by their special natural spirit. These places seem untouched by civilization. It feels like even the air here is absolutely charged in its own way. You can moor your boat to such a wild beach, then sunbathe on the beach. And only then you can walk between the trees along the shore line - suddenly you will find something edible on the branches of fruitful thickets. In this case, you can have a picnic right under the trees. If you want to hide from the sun.
  • Corfu always has a huge selection of different hotels, inns, apartments and studios. This is what the Greek island is famous for. Every holidaymaker will find a hotel to suit their taste. Everyone probably knows about European hotels. There are hotels here with different numbers of stars and completely different tastes and choices. In them you will receive comfortable rooms, clean well-maintained swimming pools, friendly staff, good and satisfying buffet cuisine and various services such as currency exchange, car rental and others. Everything is more or less clear with them. There are also many offers in the form of apartments and studios on the island. The apartments are separate houses that have all the amenities and even kitchens. You can use them to cook wonderful Greek dishes for yourself and your company. Fortunately, there are many markets and shops on the island where you can buy provisions. The most important thing is to find out recipes for Greek dishes somewhere. Or you can cook something from Russian cuisine using Greek products. There are also a few villas on the island - these are private houses in which rooms are also rented. They resemble rooms in European hotels. What’s especially special is the small hotels owned by local Greek families. They also have very comfortable conditions and a truly homely atmosphere. The Greeks are distinguished by their special hospitality and cordiality. Very often, the owners of such hotels become friends with their guests and continue to communicate through correspondence. And a vacation at the hotel begins to resemble a vacation with relatives, where you will be treated to local dishes, fruits and berries.
  • It is also impossible not to mention the wonderful local cuisine of Corfu. There are many interesting and tasty dishes here. You can try all of them in taverns, of which there are many on the island. Taverns have a special, original Greek atmosphere. It's always a pleasure to sit here and try something new from the local cuisine. Greek cuisine is similar to Italian - there are a lot of rice, potatoes, pasta, and many fruit and vegetable snacks. We highly recommend trying the local donated cheese - you will lick your fingers, as they say. It’s very interesting to try to cook something yourself if you rent an apartment or studio.
  • The sights of Corfu also leave few people indifferent. There are so many interesting and unique places on this Greek island! Firstly, it is worth talking about the spiritual heritage of this island. Corfu has a huge number of monasteries, temples, churches, as well as various fortresses. The most important, perhaps, is the Temple of St. Spyridon. Saint Spyridon is the true patron of Corfu, and his relics in this church attract hundreds of tourists to the island every year. This temple is the richest in the entire East. Many people want to donate something to a place that preserves the story of such an amazing personality. Members of the Russian imperial family also donated money to this temple more than once. In addition, there are many monasteries in Corfu, the inhabitants of which lead a very modest spiritual life, full of prayers, painting icons and studying books. Excursions go here all the time. After all, temples contain a lot of shrines and relics of various saints. In addition, many places show how olive oil is produced. In addition to spiritual havens, Corfu has many culturally interesting places. We recommend starting with a visit to the many local fortresses. Also in Corfu there is most interesting square Spianada, considered the most beautiful square in Greece. On it you will find many interesting human-sized sculptures. Along the perimeter of this square there are local taverns. It is also worth visiting the local palace, which once housed a royal summer house.

Village of Karousades

Well, having realized what interesting things you can see in Corfu, you can go to one of its villages. We offer virtual tour one such unique village at a time, which can perfectly immerse you in the mood of Greece.

We are talking about the village of Karousades in Corfu. Karusades is, at first glance, a very small and even inconspicuous place, which, at the same time, annually welcomes dozens and even hundreds of tourists. Visiting vacationers really enjoy immersing themselves in such a calm, spiritual place. Let's also look at the distinctive points of this cozy village point by point.

  1. Karousades is located in the north-west of Corfu. It is located far from the city of Corfu, they are separated by a distance of 40 kilometers. That is why the atmosphere here is so secluded and calm. But it cannot be said that Karousades is very far from civilized places.
  2. The village really stands out for its beautiful traditional architecture. You can walk along the streets of the village as if on an excursion. Here you will most accurately understand what traditional Greek houses look like. Everything here is filled with the mood of original country life. Here and there there are unique, pretty buildings. Mostly in Karusades you can find stone houses.
  3. In the center of the village there is, of course, a church, as has always been customary in old villages. And all over the world, not just in Greece. The church of the town of Karousades is distinguished by its high bell tower, which is visible from everywhere. A small neat burgundy dome can be seen on it. In general, the church fascinates with its simple, but at the same time very unique architecture.
  4. It is believed that the village of Karousades was founded by the Karus, refugees from the Pontic region. This is where the interesting, slightly tricky name of this area came from.
  5. The village doesn’t have many places to visit or its own attractions, but, oddly enough, it even has its own philharmonic orchestra! It was founded more than 30 years ago, and is now municipal.
  6. This village also has its own football team. It's hard to believe, because such suburbs of Corfu usually have only a couple of shops, a church and a few beaches. But Karousades is a truly unique, extraordinary place. The local football team has its own rich history and high merits. Athletes consistently perform well in the local Kerkyra league. The team has already won 2 championships and 1 major cup.
  7. The seaport of Karousades is considered to be one of the first resorts on the entire island of Corfu. This is such an old place, surrounded by a traditional Greek atmosphere. Due to its special and unique way of life, Karousades has not been a tourist destination for some time. The village was in a sense closed, there were only representatives of the local population. Then the situation changed a little. Today this place remains one of the few untouched natural places in Corfu. The local beaches have very clear crystal water, and the coastal cliffs are literally buried in greenery. The coastal line of Karousades resembles a real paradise. Films like The Blue Lagoon could easily be filmed here.

When going on vacation to the Greek island of Corfu, the most important thing a decent tourist should arm himself with is a camera. The local landscapes are indecently beautiful. There are whole legends about the heavenly atmosphere of this corner of Greece.

As you know, even the thieves of the famous Golden Fleece, Medea and Jason, chose Corfu as a place for their wedding. Of course, what could be better than an island covered with beautiful exotic greenery and full of enchanting sea bays and coves?

We suggest you walk around the surroundings of the entire island, and then retire to one of its most beautiful places- suburb of Kanoni. We will assume that in this material we are organizing a real virtual cruise across the expanses of Corfu.

Benefits of holidays in Corfu

So, our main stop is the Greek island of Corfu, famous in many books, tomes and travel magazines. The local mood is most conducive to a pleasant and relaxed holiday, as well as complete unity with the local beautiful nature. Without fanaticism, let's just walk around the outskirts of this island, every now and then looking at places that interest us

  1. So, let's start with the fact that it is here that nature is represented by lush fragrant trees and bushes, filling the air with their colors and wonderful smells. The island has so much vegetation that it is sometimes called the Emerald Paradise. We think that it also received this name for the set of azure water of the Ionian Sea, which goes so well with all this greenery. On the island you can find extraordinary orange and lemon orchards, olive and cypress trees, as well as vineyards, fig trees, pears and blackberry thickets. In addition, in Corfu you can even find small coniferous groves. It is especially interesting to walk through all these places during the harvest season. Here and there you will meet trees, on the branches of which fresh and juicy fruits will be waiting for you, which so delight all vacationers.
  2. Our walk through the trees mountain ranges Corfu can lead you to one of the monasteries or temples of the island, which are so beautifully covered with local greenery. Interesting and educational excursions regularly go to such places, which greatly fill every tourist spiritually. The fact is that there are a lot of places in Corfu with famous shrines and relics of holy personalities. Contact with them greatly cleanses the mind and makes you think about eternal values. For example, an excursion to the Temple of St. Spyridon of Trimifuntsky, which houses the relics of this amazing personality, can be very interesting. Every day hundreds of pilgrims enter this temple, the doors of which do not close either day or night. We, of course, turned slightly towards the city, because this richest temple of the East is located among the bustling streets of Corfu. But in the mountains there are very decent places like local monasteries with their exalted novices. Many of them lead a solitary life in prayer and painting icons. Many monasteries organize interesting educational excursions.
  3. You can't help but pass by local beaches. Perhaps they are the main attraction of Corfu. The local coast has a huge number of beaches of different sizes and other factors. There are both pebble and sandy coasts here. You can also choose a civilized beach for relaxation, with sun loungers, umbrellas and a variety of water activities, such as water skiing, boats, banana boats and even parachute jumping. They will be very crowded and interesting. Especially, probably, for young children. For them, such beaches have a lot of interesting things, like volleyball courts and other games, slides, trampolines and even entire water parks near the coast or on the beach itself. Wild beaches They have a completely different mood, with their deserted, peaceful atmosphere. Here you can immerse yourself in unity with the enchanting, beautiful nature of the island. Almost along the entire coastline there are taverns on the beaches, with numerous Greek snacks. Local kitchen very reminiscent of Italian, with its juicy and spicy flavors. Here you will be happy to serve dishes from potatoes, rice and pasta, as well as fresh cuts from local fruits and vegetables. We strongly recommend checking out at least one place that offers local homemade ice cream. Here are several of its types. Children are usually delighted. It must be said that many local hotels offer unlimited quantities of this ice cream around the clock.

Holidays in Kanoni

We are sure that even a short description has already immersed the reader in the extraordinary atmosphere of this island. Even small comments can convey the beauty of its landscapes and a very original and tranquil environment.

Of course, nothing can replace personal presence, but, as agreed, today we have a small virtual tour of the expanses of the island. Well, now is the time to go to the small cozy village of Kanoni, which, despite its size, is replete with a lot of interesting places. Let's also take a look at its bright places of interest to adequately complete our virtual cruise in Corfu

  • Kanoni is an interesting suburb of the island's capital, the city of Corfu. Kanoni is considered the most interesting place in the vicinity of Kerkyra. Many are sure that it is from the local coast that one can watch the most beautiful and romantic sunset of the local coast. It is here that you can meet interesting birds, here and there, resting on the plains of the suburbs. It is believed that these are migratory birds that choose this area for their rest. Oddly enough, the birds are not frightened even by the noise from the local airport. The fact is that it is located only one and a half kilometers from this picturesque area. And in Kanoni every now and then you can see planes coming in to land. Sometimes it seems that they land right in the water, the airport runway is so interestingly designed.
  • Along the shores of the Ionian Sea in Kanoni you will find a great variety of cafes and taverns, as well as a wide variety of hotels and apartments. That is, the recreation infrastructure here is quite well developed. We have already mentioned more than once that in local taverns you can taste amazing dishes of Greek cuisine. The portions here are very large and filling. You will be offered a variety of dishes from potatoes, pasta, rice and fruit and vegetable snacks and salads. Of course, there are so many different foods that grow on the island. In addition, the taverns offer very refreshing cocktails and drinks, as well as the famous local ice cream. Hotels are full of variety and quite affordable prices. Here you will find small apartments of local residents - these are houses in which you can retire with your small company or family. They even have small kitchenettes, with all the necessary utensils and utensils for cooking. In addition, Kanoni has villas and residences. In them you will live in rooms of a small house, with a well-landscaped area. You can also find a hotel that has several stars in its arsenal. Everything in it will be according to the given scheme - comfortable rooms with amenities, polite staff, reception with all kinds of services, Buffet and so on. Accommodation prices vary greatly depending on the distance to the sea coast. You can also stroll through local shops selling Kanoni souvenirs.
  • By the way, Kanoni in Corfu received its name at a time when the land belonged to the French nation.
