Switzerland

Switzerland has a big advantage over other European countries - at the end of December and January there is almost always snow there (at least in the mountains). Real, shaggy, lying in large snowdrifts along the streets and houses.

If you want to catch the holiday itself, it is better to go to Switzerland for Christmas, since the New Year is practically not celebrated in this country. For noisy celebrations and festive fun you should choose one of major cities – Christmas markets are held there, sweets and souvenirs are sold.

If you want peace, you should choose one of ski resorts: the celebrations there are not so large-scale, but there is an opportunity to enjoy solitude and beautiful mountain scenery.

The best option, in our opinion, is to celebrate Christmas in the city, and then go skiing or snowboarding to one of the Swiss resorts.

How to relax for the New Year cheaper

  1. The most important - try to buy hotels and tickets as early as possible(in September - November, or generally in summer). Wherever you go, as the New Year approaches, prices for tours and independent holiday are growing every day.
  2. If it’s not critical for you to celebrate the New Year abroad, but you want to plunge into European Christmas culture or go to the sea and the beach, look for options with a return BEFORE or departure AFTER New Year’s Eve. Such options can cost several times less than a trip that includes New Year's Eve.
  3. Sales in Europe begin in January - if shopping is important to you, plan your New Year's holiday so as not to return to Russia at the very beginning of January.

We hope this selection of countries for holidays for the New Year 2020 in Russia and abroad will help you decide on a holiday destination for the New Year holidays!

Have you already planned your vacation? We welcome your comments, recommendations and reviews!

This year Moscow is the best decorated for the winter holidays! The traditional GUM fair took place on Red Square. Outwardly, it is almost no different from its predecessors from last year, even the attributes are the same. The only thing is that they added festive retro cards to the design, which GUM is decorated with this year.

1| The tradition of decorating non-coniferous trees on Red Square also continues. Unusual and wonderful.

2| Nikolskaya street is the most a nice place in New Year's Moscow! Probably even the street itself thinks that this is just a Christmas dream)

3| People stand in front of the decorations as if in front of a stage, many cannot hide their delight. The most popular phrase on Nikolskaya: “Like in Europe!” (although many European cities are decorated much more modestly). In second place is the question: “Is this really Moscow?”

4| The entire street has been turned into a festive light corridor. True, from the side of Lubyanka the decorations look more modest than from the side of Red Square.

5| Decorations on Tretyakovsky Proezd have been traditional for a couple of years now. What’s new is that the security guards have learned not to fuss about the tripod and now do not equate it with “a spy attribute of competitors of the stores presented here.” How can you not believe in miracles after this?

Last year, one barrier boss tried to prohibit me from filming with a tripod. He was, of course, sent politely. He didn’t calm down, he even called the police. He was sent a second time, this time to the police.

Maybe the security guards at White Square aren’t so strange now either? And then they also looked at the tripod as a weapon.

6| Ice slide on Revolution Square. Alas, today it melted a little and was already closed.

7| Fair on Manezhnaya Square. Great place!

8| For history)

9| This is the second year a huge ball has appeared on Manezhka. Unlike its predecessor, it now shimmers in different colors.

10| As before, you can go inside. They say the ball makes wishes come true

11| Bolshoi Theater wearing a crown!

12| Fountain.

13| The second most beautiful place in the center after Nikolskaya!

15| Fair in front of the Central Department Store.

16| Carousel.

17| Chic Chamberlain.

18| Let's walk along it.

19| On the Tverskaya side, on Kamergersky, there were illuminated numbers for 2016. They are also found in other places in the city - on Trubnaya, Tverskaya, Pushkinskaya.

20| A cozy fair on Tverskaya Square. The hardest thing for photography is to capture a moment without people. There are a lot of people walking around, so sometimes you have to wait a long time. I was told that there were photographers who, while waiting for the right moment, managed to read an entire volume of “War and Peace”!)

23| And smaller tunnels)

24| Warm and cozy inside

All over the world, people celebrate the arrival of the New Year in much the same way - with spectacular fireworks, street celebrations, music and dancing, as well as luxurious feasts and drinks. The party continues throughout the night and segues into January 1st, when a parade of marching bands parade through the city, colorful carnival floats carry costumed dancers and the Queen's horses prance. The best places on earth to watch New Year's shows on Victoria Embankment, Waterloo or Westminster Bridge - and on the water you can enjoy a cruise on the Thames.

✰ ✰ ✰

Sydney, Australia

Sydney is one of the first cities on the planet to welcome the New Year, so it's no surprise that the city has such a wide variety of options for celebrating.

In Sydney Harbour, you can join boats filled with revelers to watch the fireworks extravaganza overhead at midnight.
