Unusual China. natural attractions

This page provides a small guide to the main attractions of Beijing. Of course, here is only a small part of what can be seen in the city itself and its suburbs. I tried to list here the main, in my opinion, the sights of Beijing, those places - temples and monasteries, museums, historical sites, streets, etc., which are worth visiting in the first place. Preference was given to those places that are easily accessible by public transport. Next to the name of the sights of Beijing, their Chinese name is written in Russian. One of the spectacular evening performances in Beijing can be seen at the Red Theater, located in the historical district of Chongwen. Everything here is surprising, from complex acrobatic numbers to the design of the building itself, which is decorated with a complex metal structure in the form of a red lattice. And, perhaps, the most surprising is the fact that not professional tricksters take part in the performances, but the real monks of the famous Shaolin Monastery! Along with the game itself, a number of acrobatic stunts and martial arts elements are used in the numbers. It is especially impressive that even the most difficult numbers are performed without any safety equipment. Performances are held in Chinese, but there is parallel accompaniment in English. Foreign guests can also purchase a program where the legend is translated into different world languages.

27. Art Zone 798 (798 Art Zone)

It is impossible, when describing the sights of China, not to mention the Chaoyang area, which is famous throughout the world as the center of the creative industry. All of its buildings represent the buildings of former factories, among which the exhibition complex under mysterious name"798". This number was inherited from a factory that has operated within these walls since the 1950s. In the 1980s, changes in the structure of the Chinese economy led to the gradual desolation of industrial territories. Starting from the 2000s, the squares began to be developed by artists, and the empty premises gradually turned into workshops, galleries and art centers. Art Zone 798 covers an area of 1 sq. km, which can be bypassed in a matter of minutes, but even a day is not enough to study art objects. There are antique shops, designer boutiques, and shops with vintage jewelry and accessories on the territory.

28. Nanluogu hutong

Chinese Medieval Buildings on the Nanluogu Hutong in Beijing Fabio Achilli

In old China, groups of houses were built one opposite the other, forming a narrow alley. Streets of this type were called Hutongs, but only in Beijing. They were considered the smallest unit of the territorial division of the city. Since ancient times, the local population has lived in hutongs, and it is here, like nowhere else, that the spirit of old China has been preserved. One of the surviving quarters of this type is Nanluogu hutong - a shopping street that was formed here 8 centuries ago. Today it is filled to capacity with inexpensive eateries, souvenir shops and is teeming with tourists who study all this diversity with curiosity. But Nanluogu has not lost its atmosphere, and in addition to shop windows, here you can see a real picture of the life of local residents who have inhabited the hutong for many centuries in a row. Housing here is rather cramped, but economical, and according to an old tradition, the inhabitants spend most of their lives on the street.

29. Wangfujing Street

Wangfujing shopping street Eastern city in Beijing Nggsc

There are places in Beijing that are best visited at certain times of the year. If you are looking for what to see in Beijing in winter, then be sure to check out Wangfujing - a famous and large shopping street, especially busy in winter on New Year's Eve, when it is luxuriously dressed up, and shop windows light up with magical winter lights, creating a festive mood. There is something to admire and something to buy here - with a relatively short length of 0.8 km, Wangfujing has more than two hundred shops where you can buy local food, books, cosmetics, souvenirs, jewelry, household appliances, fashionable clothes - which is not here. A mobile dispensary operates in the center of the street - you can check your health right inside a special bus. The highlight of the shopping district is the Donghuamen market, where you can buy the most exotic food.

30. Wangjing SOHO Skyscrapers

Skyscrapers of Wangjing SOHO in Wangjing Bangabandhu

The modern sights of Beijing surprise and amaze with their scale , including the Wangjing SOHO skyscrapers erected in 2014. The ultra-modern high-tech business center was designed to satisfy the need for office space that arose several years ago - it coped with this task with a vengeance, providing the business population with almost 400 thousand square meters of office space. Three skyscrapers have an unusual shape and resemble either huge boulders, or smooth rocks, or giant fish. Towers with a height of 118 to 200 meters have a characteristic curvilinear shape and facades layered structure which provides them with excellent ventilation and protection from the sun. A unified microclimate system smoothly changes the angle of inclination of aluminum panels, acting on the basis of the readings of thousands of special sensors and creating the optimal level of air conditioning, heating, lighting, and water supply.

31. CCTV headquarters

China Central Television headquarters building in Beijing Morio

The metropolitan metropolis has a myriad of skyscrapers, among which there are real masterpieces of architecture. But even against their background, the building of the CCTV headquarters, which houses the central Chinese television, is distinguished by its originality. The author of the project was the Dutch architect Koolhaas, who created a unique 234-meter structure of two inclined towers connected at the top and bottom by corner transitions. The giant structure, forming a kind of loop, seems to hang over the city. In addition to the creative form, the Headquarters building is distinguished by a bright futuristic facade made of glass, as if covered with a metal mesh. Overcoming a specially laid route , anyone can walk through the entire television center and see with their own eyes how a whole cycle of creating television programs is produced within these walls, from filming and editing to broadcasting.

32. Peace Park

Attractions from around the world at Beijing Techyan Peace Park

Visiting the Peace Park in Beijing is like visiting different parts of the world with the most significant and famous sights, while spending no more than a couple of hours on such a “journey”. Here, on a space of 42 hectares, miniature copies of the world's masterpieces of architecture flaunt, most of which are made on a scale of 1:10. Each creation is worked out carefully, with amazing detail, so that the copy is almost indistinguishable from the original. There are reproductions of famous sculptures in the park, and natural attractions, and copies of world-famous attractions - for example, here you can even ride a reduced roller coaster. In addition to a fascinating walk, you can have fun and have a great rest in the park - take a walk among the beautiful fountains and picturesque castles, ride a boat or a catamaran in the local pond.

颐园新居

There is a separate category of interesting objects - unknown sights of Beijing , which are not as popular in the tourism environment as the key monuments-symbols of the Celestial Empire. Yuanmingyuan Park can be called one of the most beautiful places in Beijing, but the ruined state of the once luxurious buildings has led this place to partial oblivion. During the Qing Dynasty, Yuanmingyuan Old Summer Palace served as the home of the royal family, where the heirs to the throne spent their time. Once Old summer palace was prosperous architectural complex, which could have become a national treasure, but as a result of the international conflict that led to the attack and subsequent arson, the complex was not preserved in its original integrity. Some of the buildings were destroyed, the paths were overgrown, the ponds dried up, and on this moment the reconstruction of the complex, which so far has affected only a few parts of it.

Beijing Botanical Garden against the backdrop of the Xishan Mountains in Beijing

Summer in the Chinese capital is characterized by intense heat and humidity - this is not the best time to go to Beijing. What to see in the summer, so as not to get into the midst of the summer heat? Outside the city, the heat is much easier to tolerate - especially if there is a reservoir nearby. The Beijing Botanical Garden, which is located at the foot of the Xiangshan Mountains, amazes with plant abundance. A rapid river flows through the park, which gives life-giving coolness in summer. Its shores are laid with gray stone, cascades and rapids are laid out of it, from which water falls down with a splash and soothes with its murmur. Vegetation rages along the coast - hundreds of thousands of bushes, flowers and trees amaze with their diversity. From afar you can see the domes of the tropical greenhouse, inside which hundreds of species of orchids are carefully cultivated. Noteworthy is the bonsai garden, which displays miniature dwarf trees.

35. Houhai Lake

View from the stone bridge to Houhai Lake in central Beijing

Northwest and west of the Imperial Palace are six artificial lakes, founded in the 13th-14th centuries during the Yuan Dynasty. They have a traditional structure and are divided into 3 Front and 2 Back lakes. And while the atmosphere of political correctness reigns in the Front, people have fun in the Back, relaxing in the countless bars, eateries located there, riding boats and catamarans. One of the Back Lakes is Houhai Lake, which has become an adornment of the palace and the city as a whole. This is one of the attractive places where tourists flock to learn the history and culture of the development of the local population. The shores of the lake conquer with their charm and serenity, the labyrinths of Beijing streets - hutongs - allow you to feel the spirit of ancient times. In addition to walking and contemplation, here you can visit one of the restaurants, night bars, clubs or souvenir shops.

Hainan Island is the southern island of China, which is definitely worth a visit. Read about and get inspired for a further journey through the Middle Kingdom.

If museums are a cold testament to China's historical events, then Beijing's parks can show the real life of the Chinese, full of pleasant surprises for a tourist who first encounters the country's five thousand years of history, and the best of them are described below.

Beihai Park

A peaceful lake, exquisite gardens and an abundance of Buddhist temples and pavilions occupy 68.2 hectares - the territory of the imperial lands is so large that the numerous flow of tourists is lost in their vicinity, and the noise of voices is concealed by the sounds of the surrounding nature. Surprisingly, there is always a haze over the lake, and on the islands themselves, connected by long ornate bridges, there is some kind of mysterious atmosphere, fascinating with its calmness, that visitors involuntarily fall silent and succumb to this general serene mood.

From the top of the Jade Island, a panorama of the city opens up, and you can get to it on foot, or you can take an authentic oriental-style ferry for a fee. It is here that most of the religious buildings that are still revered and of great importance to the Chinese are concentrated - the statues of Buddha and bodhisattvas are surrounded by candles, offerings and money. Entrance costs from $1 to $3, depending on the number of places you want to visit, and accepts Beihai all year round from 6:00 am to 20:00 pm.

Happy Valley Amusement Park

If anything can compare with the famous Disneyland, it is Beijing's Happy Valley, which owns about 130 rides. If you are not a fan of thrills, it is better to save twice and buy a "night" ticket at a price of $ 18, when the most extreme attractions are closed, the rest of the time the ticket price is $ 33 for adults, $ 22 for children from 1, 2 to 1.5 meters, and free of charge for pensioners over 69 and children up to 1.2 meters.

"Extreme Rusher" and "Crystal Wing" are the most sought-after high-speed slides that rush at a speed of 135 km / h between the walls and caves of the Ant Castle, creating the feeling that you are about to miss the opening and fly out of your chair. "Happy Valley" is divided into several thematic zones, decorated under the era of Ancient Greece or the Mayan civilization, where spectacular performances are held with "robbers" of tombs, volcanic eruption and a host of other performances that cannot be seen in a day, even considering that the entertainment center works with 9:00 to 22:00.

Jingshan Park

About 1000 years ago, Mount Jingshan was formed here, which means "View from the mountain." Indeed, this place is notable for its landscapes that open from its five peaks from a height of 50 meters above ground level. From here you can see the Forbidden City, and Beihai, as well as the Xishan and Xiangshan mountains. The path to the peaks lies through thorny cypress alleys and flower beds, and on each of them there are pavilions with statues of Buddhist deities cast from copper, and among the thickets of “weeping” Chinese sophora there is one known for the story of the suicide of the last emperor of the Ming Dynasty - Chongzhen.

In 1644, during a peasant uprising, the emperor failed to escape, so he hanged himself from one of the trees, and before that he killed his servant, wife and children. In the Hall of Visitation of Virtue, the coffins of the rulers of the Qing Dynasty were displayed before burial, their portraits were kept in the Hall of Imperial Longevity, and the last interesting point of this tour is the Memorial Arch, on which a plaque with the saying of the ruler of the Qing Dynasty - Qianlong is hung.

If you get here on the day of the exhibitions, the ticket price will rise to $ 0.7, the rest of the time the price is $ 0.3. Opening hours - from 6:00 to 21:00.

The main building of this park complex is the Altar of the Sun, surrounded by a ceremonial red gate with green tiles. In the middle of the altar stands an altar in the form of a square, personifying the earth, and a throne, to which stairs with nine steps lead.

During the construction of the altar, everything was accompanied by the symbolism of the sun, and all physical measurements were equal to odd (“solar”) numbers. In addition, every day from 6:00 to 21:00 among man-made rocks, lotus ponds and pavilions, it is pleasant to relax, especially since admission is free, and entertainment is offered for children, including a climbing wall.

Chinese ethnic culture park

So far, China has managed to preserve all 56 nationalities, exercise their rights, honor culture, language and their traditions, despite the fact that they make up only 8% of the total population. Therefore, in 1992, the Chinese government considered it necessary to raise the issue of creating theme park, and by 2001, work on its improvement was completed. Everywhere there are traditional dwellings of different peoples of China, about 45 ethnic villages, and information about the peculiarities of culture on stands near them.

Old Summer Palace

The construction of the palace began in 1707 during the reign of the Qing Dynasty, to which only those close to the emperor were allowed. Foreign craftsmen, invited by Cangllong, also worked on the exterior of the building, as a result of which the palace was built of stone, and not wood, which was typical for architectural buildings in China at that time.

The emperor's summer residence turned out to be so beautiful that it was even called the "Versailles of the East". But soon the Second Opium War broke out between the Chinese and the Anglo-French coalition, and the English delegation of 20 people sent to negotiate in China was tortured and killed. An enraged Lord Elgin, the commander-in-chief of the coalition forces, sent more than 3,000 troops to burn down the Summer Palace.

Today, the Beijing authorities allocate funds for the maintenance of the imperial gardens and the palace, but the ruins were left untouched in order to preserve the rich and eventful history of China. Admission is $5, including the local museum. Opening hours: from 7:00 to 18:00, daily.

The country residence was built by order of Canlong since 1750, and after a series of hostilities, it was restored and improved already in 1888. Half of them represent the western zone, depicting scenes from the life of ordinary peasants, while the other, the eastern one, serves as an exhibition site for contemporary masters, who, in turn, depicted urban life.

In addition to man-made works of art, natural resources are also present here - about 5,000 magnolias delight the eye, especially in spring, when their flowering is in full swing.
